Those who have done color changes in their Z, has anyone attempted to remove the carpet piece under the passenger side, below the glove box. The carpet is glued to the plasic dash. It looks really tough to remove without damaging the carpet or the plasic underneith. Since I am going from Saddle to Black, I am seriously considering dying the piece in place.

I would think the preferred might be to transfer the correct carpet and I don't know why a commercial "heat gun" might not allow it to easily be removed. It actually was a service part that was sold as separate part and through '92 I believe the carpet type would be consistent. It also wouldn't be much of an effort to dye what you do have. If you're unhappy with the results you know what the alternative is. The choice of dye could be important.

it is not too bad to pull off and can be done in one piece, you just need to take your time. I have done it now to a few dash pads without damaging the dash pad, might have damaged the carpet though

Dying it may or may not work as you want it to..

try spraying it with light coats of vinyl dye and then rubbing it in. it`ll work. a rubber glove is recommended.
