I have been looking at ZR1,s for sale here in Canada and came across a 1995 model with only 30,000 miles on it .
For some reason though someone has had the plenum off and repainted it without recolouring the lettering . The rest of the engine looks filthy as hell .
Is there an issue with the 95 that would have someone remove the plenum ?
Are the rad hoses orange on the 95 ?
Obviously someone has been tinkering with this motor , but why .
The rest of the car looks clean though .
Thanks

The Plenum could have been removed to change injectors - they have issues with gas/ethanol blends and a fairly common job. No idea why it would have been repainted though. From what I have heard the lettering is a little tricky, so that could be why it didn't get done. Stock rad hoses are all black. The grime shouldn't hurt the engine but does obviously suggest neglect. The LT5 in my car isn't spotless but it's a long way from "filthy" and that's a '91 so 4 years older. I'm in Ontario so let me know if I can help at all.
Thanks

Anything can happen during ownership. Pulling the plenum is required to change the plug wires, starter, coils, injectors and to troubleshoot the secondary system so anyone of those reasons can come into play as far as plenum removal is concerned. As stated factory hoses are black. Are you sure they are orange im wondering if red hoses have bled color a bit.

The rad hoses look yellow to me - maybe that's just my laptop screen. They're aftermarket Samco's though I've never seen a set that color before. The car also has after market mats in the foot-wells and aftermarket billet peddles. It's hard to be sure from photos but the general condition seems good except the engine which is dirty and mostly on the left-hand side for some reason. Can you get a carfax on it?
I wonder if anyone on here knows the car. I believe we have a few members not too far from you, perhaps one would volunteer to help you check it out if you'd like that. I'm about 5 hours north but would be happy to help if no one closer can.

Using the Yellow warning sticker on the upper fan shroud..... Yep I agree those are yellow Samco hoses. Not the color choice I would have went with but hey not my car. Pretty clean interior I cant tell if it has the original windshield. GC
Nice car, in a white car scenario, the red interior would be ideal for me personally.
Such a striking differnce in the condition of teh cam/covers and upper plenum. I wonder what went on there?

Yah sorry . The hoses are yellow . The rest of the car seems clean . It is not too far from where I live so I may take a look myself and ask a few more questions . I emailed him this morning asking about the hoses and plenum .

I emailed the dealer and he said I had good questions as to the condition of the motor but be knew nothing of the history of the car other than that the previous owner is a collector and that one of the hoses leaked so he changed them . He has no idea as to why the plenum was pulled and repainted . Gonna skip this one anyway . There are a lot better cars out there for 1/2 the price .
