I understand there is a European rule change that will effectively render the Corvette team to struggling. The BMW team that competes in the US is not even going to enter due to these European changes. Nevertheless an outstanding race!!!

You gotta slow them down somehow.

The C6Rs need to run. Its their last hurrah before the C7 takes the torch.
12.0 1/4mile @ 119mph, 3.8sec 0-60, 1.03g, 107ft braking from 60-0.
I can hardly wait to see the C7R.

the RLL BMW's don't comply witht he international regs and thus aren't eligible to run at Le Mans. That car shouldn't even be running in the ALMS races

Maybe for the waxers in the group, they should stop the race from noon to 3pm for a show and shine? :p

What car are those stated stats for? Guessing C6 ZO6?
The intake ports on these race engines are TINY. I couldnt believe how small the ports in the heads are. They used to be huge pre restrictor, then they made them smaller and started engineering with the restrictors in place.

Hog,
No, those numbers were just released by Chevy for the Z51 C7

Ok, thanks. I thought there was something that was under the 100ft mark for braking?
Thanks for the correction.

:usa:Come on guys, don't moan about the unfair rules in European Motorsport.
My heart has beaten for American cars since ever, and I would never watch
"Le Mans" if there were no American cars!
The Europeans are as they are, especially the Germans. There has to win an Audi, Porsche
or what ever and the Ferraris have their own agency, the FIA.
So you should do what you did in the Sixties when the Ford GT 40s has beaten
the Ferraris and Porsches, these were the glory days. You should repeat them
and beat the Europeans!!!

Well, that makes sense. If cross sectional area of the intake ports are defined to be "X", then flow through ports of X cross sectional area would flow better under dynamic circumstances than flow in a larger port (runner) that collides (read: reversion) with the edges of a restrictor plate jutting into the column of air.
I wonder if the total sum of the cross sectional area of the intake ports on Chevrolet's V8s is the same as that of the V12s they're competing against? Anybody know??
I've kinda lost the trail, but is the factory Team Corvette competing in GT1 class for this race, or GT2??

GT1 and GT2 are gone, they have a GT Pro and GT AM classes, GT Pro for the factory vette, and I believe there is a French team running GT AM

I think there are no V12s.
Aston Martin and Ferrari have V8s too, the Porsches have 6 cylinder Boxer engines
and the Viper has a V10. By the way, one of the Astons is out, heavy impact in the
side rails. The pace cars were out for more than one hour. They say there will be rain
again. Bad weather and keeping out of battles could be a chance for the Corvettes.
I hope they manage this situation. I keep my fingers crossed and I shall watch TV again.

:( Bad news from Le Mans. Allan Simonsen, the driver of the Aston Martin, which hit
the side rails very hard, died in the hospital. RIP.
The reason for such accidents is, just my opinion, that the drivers are forced to push
very hard from all the beginning, before they can get in the right rhythm. A long distance
race should be a marathon, but not a sprint! But there are teams, especially Audi, a typical German team, who
exactly goes this way with their agressive strategy!
About two hours ago, we could see Dr. Ullrich, the team leader of Audi, when he watched a TV screen.
One of the works Corvettes was out in the gravel and nearly hit the second Corvette, when it came back
to the track. Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich was more than amused!!!!

done so. I don't understand this!

Was it mechanical failure? The AUTOWEEK announcement I just received did not say.

reading the comments on the race restrictions...just about every pro circuit is limiting engine size and power to slow them down a little. it is so easy to add power now that either they dumb the cars down a little or more people will die with speeds no one can handle. One has died at Le Mans already...the Aston martin team. I looked at the live feed for the race running under the le mans . org site and it is one of the Audi cars. Looks as much like an audi as the Rolex DP corvettes look like corvettes...as in zero. Without the vette flags you'd never know it. I think the stock 2013 big Vettes are way too big in engine size for the Rolex series here now as well. Too powerful. You might know more in detail but smaller and smaller is the order of the day with still pretty big power coming out of them.

Very sad. The Corvette behind him caught it on his dash cam. Seems he may have caught a curb and over corrected going left. Terrible to see a young person like that go.

I had this all on DVR and did not read or hear anything till I saw it.
Sad indeed that with all the advances in safety there are still deaths.
Disappointing for the Corvettes.

It's always tragic when these things happen. I've lost friends to racing incidents over the years, you have to feel for his family.

A terrible shame for Simonsen, family and AM team but a credit to them deciding to continue.
A big spread this month in Racer mag on the SRT Viper effort. The horsepower wars here have given us street cars that must be de-tuned to compete, from all our Big 3. SRT team lead was quoted they'd be "thrilled with a top 5". So it appears to me that Corvette teams and fans should consider being thrilled with their results - not ideal results but not shabby by any measure, props to them. To end a 24 within a few laps of 1st is an unbelievable success in my book!
I have to give a shout-out to the Speed TV coverage this year, only a couple of breakouts and only a few woeful commentary problems, at least in what I was able to watch.
Cheers,
- Jeff

You betcha, but I will admit the c6 appears to be showing its age (sounds funny saying that!). Still kicked the Viper pretty hard though.
Better luck next year with a c7.
