My ZR-1 came with an amp installed for 4 upgraded "high" range speakers.
The Amp can be "piggybacked" with another amp easily to install a subwoofer.
I would like to install a 10" shallow mount sub, and amp to balance out the sound.
What enclosures are you all running?
Can a truck enclosure fit behind the drivers seat? Im pretty short so the seat is up a little bit.
It would be nice if it can be hidden by the sunshade, or if I can still have room for the targa top in the back.
If you have pictures, feel free to share them, thanks! :) ---

You can fit 8" subs in the stock rear locations. I actually header done that before.. I am currently using some 6.5 woofers in mine and they are enough for me

Hmmm , I didn't even think of the side rear areas.
I will pop one off and see about that.
I found a few enclosures while surfing the net. Im going to take some measurements next time I get in the car.
Thanks for the idea! ---

I think the 8" in the OEM spot is perfect.. I am running Elemental designs EU700 (6.5" woofers) and Find they are plenty..
I have a pair of Elemental Designs 9kv.2 (8" subwoofers) mounted to 3/4" thick wood plates I made for the C4 that I am not using and would be willing to sell..
here is a picture of a Kicker I had in my 89

you can see my ED EU700 in this pic:

OOOH, that's another good idea.
Looks like you still have plenty of hatch space.
I may measure from side to side, and see if I can find any prebuilt boxes out there that will slide right in :)
Thanks for the idea!!! ---

No sweat. Trick is to use Pioneer low profile subwoofer - only 4" deep for 10" sub.

Have you considered OEM speakers and headunit? Or even just a standard headunit + Boses in the corners?
There is no better sound, in my opinion. You can get LOUDER, if that's what you're wanting, but with dedicated amplifiers in each Bose speaker, you just can't do better...

SecondChance ... I am a fan of the Pioneer low profile subs. My Syclone and Viper have them , and I enjoy the sound. Back then, they were the only option. Now I see Kicker, JL , MTX, and others have low profile options!
Schrade , I actually don't have the OEM stuff anymore ... but have a really nice head unit and 4 way Alpine amp/ speakers installed already.
I honestly don't listen to the stereo much because I love to hear the engine, but I may take some longer trips this summer. My passengers ask to hear the radio sometimes too ... they aren't nearly the gearhead I am :) ---

Here is my subwoofer set up that came in my car with a really basic radio that I upgraded.
Here is an angle before I installed the protector grill. Yes the top still fits and I have room for my tool bag and socket set.

Nice setup GoldCylon! The angle on your box helps with space a lot.
What is that bar behind the seats? First I have seen something like that ... stiffen up the chassis?
Thanks ---

Thanks I think this is kinda what you are looking for for best of all worlds
Its a Brey Krause Harness Bar. Allows me to mount my racing harness, camera etc. Yes it does stiffen the car up a little can add a little protection in a side impact although that not what it is designed to do. Its a big piece of metal so lol

Honestly I think the aftermarket set up I have sounds better then OEM. but maybe if I have new Bose Speakers and Amps it would sound better too. I am quite happy with my aftermarket set-up

No doubt I even asked for a military discount no dice. The price is what it is... Too damn expensive for a group buy as well.

Great that you ask about the MD as you never know. I don't know how much I have saved over the past 30 years doing so. I know what you mean. I remember I had the chance to buy an LPE aerobody kit once, but thought I would never have the power to back it up and did not. I guess I still don't.........:(, but I know you will.
