Loose fasteners

What does everyone use to hold fasteners from vibrating out?
Specifically in the cabin and even more specifically the black screws that hold the plastic parts?

A recent post about cracked plastic parts got me thinking about the last time I went through the cabin tightening hardware. Obviously overtightened hardware leads to damage. The Loctite company offer from what I can tell three products (listed below). Has anyone tried anything else that works well?? I am tempted to try "liquid nails" construction adhesive because it does not cure to rock hard. It stays somewhat pliable.

All three of these have a warning about plastic but otherwise would seem right.

This one not only has a warning about plastic but also says "permanent" but removable with heat. I've used it with good success
in the "V".

I have gone through and replaced a lot of the interior trim screws with the black auto panel screws with the small washers on them. Got them from Sears Hardware. they seem to grip well in the threads, and with the larger surface area they don't need to be so tight... The ones that pulled through the rear trim were angled heads with no washers. I did use those again when I replaced the trim pieces - just made sure to stop tightening when they contacted the trim...
But yeah that was a $200 replacement cost to me for some idiot overtightening some screws...:mad:

or most any RTV sealant that you might have available "right now"! Any of the thread locker products are meant for "machined thread" and likely 95% of the trim that has the vibration loosening tendency is not a machine screw, even if they are the RTV product will do well.

I agree. I always have the 3M Ribbon Sealer on hand for the 53-55 restorations. It's alot like the product that GM used. Most old timers call it "dum-dum".

I thought about the strip-chalk (dum-dum) and the windshield ribbon stuff you use comes in 25ft kits unless you mean the urethane caulking tube product and there's not many that have access to the "ribbon". I visit a friend every time I'd like some. The RTV products we've all got, maybe even choices of!

I've been using the same 25 ft roll for years. Still plenty left. Lol

I found some 15ft rolls at O'Reilly's for less that $20
