Reading through the posts it dawned on me: I am in awe and humbled by the skills within this brotherhood.

Historical research, craftsmanship, mechanical engineering, computer hardware and software design, artistic skills. And not shade tree knowledge. You guys can give GM’s engineers a run for the money anyday.

And I admire the willingness of each to help the other.

Thanks for the inspiration, George

Don't let it go to their heads! LOL. A bright bunch indeed but some of them still seem to think the yellow ones are fastest when we all know it is the red ones which rule!

I cannot imagine a 427 lt5 fully tuned and what it could do....a lot!

I agree with the OP. SO nice to have such knowledgeable people to ask questions of - especially when you are a newbie and know little to nothing about Corvettes! (like myself)....

If it were not for these forums and the great, friendly, knowledgeable people who frequent them, I wouldn't even be considering the ownership of an LT5 powered ZR-1.

There are lots and lots of tricks and tips for maintenance or modification of these cars that are shared, plus this group makes the wrangling of these NLA, used, and NOS parts a tad bit easier. Some have even gone so far as to reproduce some of these parts that are made of unobtainium in order to keep these great cars on the road.

Thanks for being such a great group, and for being welcoming, even for the enthusiasts like me, who don't currently have the pleasure of throwing 7,000rpm powershifts behind an LT5 of my own------YET.

Thank you, ALL!

Hog,
If and when you buy one you will doubtless start grinning every time you run through the gears and see that the engine just keeps pulling and pulling and pulling. A week ago on a weekend 90 mile twisty road drive I got behind some poke doing 40 in the corners usually marked 45 max on a 55 mph two lane highway which I completely ignore and corner at the same 60-62 I do the rest so I flipped the valet switch on, put it in third at 60 which he finally did on the first straight and blew by him at 110 mph. Honest to goodness, when I glanced over it looked like he was standing still and, relatively, he was. that was just a hard riff in third and not even all the way mashed down......

It just makes you smile when you remember to breath.

Hog, you might want to watch the results of this weekend's Chicago 1/2 mile Sat and Sun drag races...several tuned ZR-1's of our vintages are entered and with the extra length our cars really start to shine. 3,4,5 are fantastic gears on these cars. I think it is called wannagofast.com and this is being held for 150 cars sat and then on sun with several runs for each on a rented long runway and timed at 1/2 mile. The company runs these a few times a year in various places. Some of our members are entered with their cars this weekend. Not sure any pure stock are but some fbi 500 hp and up cars sure are...tuned lt5's.

I agree, a great bunch of people on here. Another big plus is being able to work on your own car due to the knowledge and helpfulness, and all the money we save to boot.:)

That sure is the goal. It's Mission Not Impossible:

Keep the ZR-1 cars on the road by setting aside our differences in order to help fellow owners.

Of course they can as seen in a Chev promotional video. The guy WAILS on the shufter while doing some acceleration tests.

A quick view of the video I am speaking of is shown in this video with a properly executed ZF powershiuft being executed at 0:56.

I think the "guy" wailing on it is Jim Ingles, code name "Jingles". He did all the validation testing which included beating the crap out of the clutch and ZF-6. He's the reason Chevrolet could quote 1/4mile times none of us would be able to reach and not void the warranty.
Pete met him last year when Dave McClellan asked Pete if he powershifted his ZR. Pete said no, and McClellan called Jingles over.

Yes, and I know he has received his share of comments about it, which I am sure he tires from hearing. It probably looked more violent than it was...and maybe he knew he was being filmed.

-One thing for sure, if anyone knows who he is, they aren't going to question his driving ability.

I agree.
This is a a wonderful place to learn about a wonderful car. It gave me the confidence to buy one, and feel secure that I would never be stuck. The knowledge everyone shares here is phenomenal. I have never seen a group of owners share parts, expertise, successes, stories and miseries, with the spirit shown her. I bow to you all. :worship: I can not match the knowledge of some, but don't mind chiming in.

I apologize for hijacking the thread. I agree about the quality of the people and of the information and everyone's willingness to help.

Now, back to powershifting....I had a '68 Chevelle coupe, Grecian Green, with vinyl interior, bench seat, the 325hp/350fp (same package rated 350hp in vettes) with 4-speed, 4:11 gear, and factory air shocks. The factory air shocks were filled through a fiting behind the license plate. I used to powershift the sh*# out of that car. My cousin had a new '68 427 Vette, and that little Chevelle would flat whip that Vette, up to 100 mph, which it attained in a hurry. I wish I still had that little Chevelle...
