Hi,

First, please accept my sincere apologies if this isn't an appropriate post for this forum. I suspect you might get questions like this often, and I understand how annoying it is that it's always some drive-by noob.

That said, I'm looking for my dad's ZR1. It's a 1991 red model, previously registered in Indiana and Oklahoma (I have the VIN, if it's kosher to post it, just say so and I will). I believe it was traded back to a Chevy dealership in Indianapolis in 1993. I was 11 when that happened.

Dad passed a few years ago and it's taken me quite some time to sort through many of the more sentimental things. The Vette stuff was the last and most difficult. My brother and I have so many incredible memories of that car (Danny Sullivan took a hot lap in it at Indianapolis Motor Speedway once) and it would mean a lot to me to be able to at least find it and know that it's out there, still being loved by someone. Maybe if I could just go visit it one more time, or God willing, purchase it at some point. And perhaps the current owner would like to know some of it's history; I have voluminous paperwork and old photos to share.

Do you fine folks know how one might go about finding this specific car? Thank you all so very much for reading and any help you can provide.

Post up the VIN - There's nothing wrong with that and most Forum members if the car is in one of their hands would welcome the history and knowledge of the car that you could share.

Who knows it could be right around the corner, what a reunion that could be!

even the last 4 would have been fine. That's how we know our cars here. I hope you find the car you're looking for. I'm surprised that the first owner of my car hasn't tried to track me down yet

I don't see it ever entering the Registry as a "members" vehicle but I don't know in the transition from older to newer servers etc if all of that information transitioned. If it were a VIN that were entered by a Registry member it would have generally appeared in a Google search.

I have never used a NMVTIS data base search but it's inexpensive. It would for sure pass on information as to if the title has been branded by significant damage that might have deemed it a total loss etc:

I don't know how complete an NMVTIS inquiry is but it might be a start!!

A person that is attempting to help him would have just needed to create it and if you've no "knowledge" of the algorithm used for the check digit it's very difficult. Yes I could have done it, I'm familiar with the algorithm, but even the Registry members are kept in the complete VIN order not simply a "short-cut" that isn't actually that effective!!

I didn't think of checking besides having someone see the thread here. don't mind me, coffee hasn't been consumed yet

Pat,

Welcome to the Forum. I had a 91 Z with VIN 5801197 - red with black interior purchased from Sport Chevrolet in Silver Spring, MD. Currently I have a black 94.

I hope you find your dad's car.

Consider showing up at Great Falls Cars & Coffee. We get 3-4 ZR-1s showing up frequently.

Had me going for a second there - my wife bought her red 91 in Indianapolis - but the VIN tells the tale and it is not ours.

Besides the documentation, a Danny Sullivan hot lap is awesome provenance for that VIN if it ever turns up. The current owner should be glad to hear from you.

Welcome to the forum, condolences on your Dad, and good luck with your search.
