This ZR-1? The Z is a Tommy Morrison Snake Skinner. The Z was featured in Corvette Fever back in the mid to late 90's. Just wondering if there are other pictures of the Z or where it is now?

**This is not the Z that is painted like a GS on this forum, two different cars.

I remember the pics of that car. I think I saw them in Corvette Quarterly in an issue from '96 (an ad for which Morrison Motorsports would turn your car into a Snakeskinner with all the bits and pieces. Beautiful...the wheels and spoiler looked awesome!

If OBDII had held off yet for '96 and there was a ZR-1 for that year, I would have dreamed of a version like this...a "SS" version of the ZR-1 for even more coin.. (Of course I wouldn't have been able to afford it back then anyway)

The details would have been like this... Lighter carbon fiber hood, and maybe other lighter parts such as white 1st gen Dymags like GM's 1st Snake Skinner development car... Maybe spare tire delete (with fix a flat). And, 475+ HP "black engine", mods done right at Merc as the LT5 went down the line the first time. I am sure Van Deventer and Skinner would have loved a little extra time in the "material removal" department:mrgreen:.

This, I think, would have left an even larger impression in the annals of automotive history!!! ....yeah baby!

I have a Morrison sales brochure for the Snakeskinner body kits. I believe it has the same pics as you posted.

I also know where the body kit molds are.

They must have changed the front air dam at sometime. The front and side's of my Jeal Ruby are suppose to be Morrison...

Brett,

Any chance of getting a copy? Of the sales brochure that is...

Ron, is your front lower valance a separate piece? I'll have to look at the molds to see which set they are.

It looks like yours is a separate add on pc. The car Daniel posted looks like a one piece bumper/valance combined.

IDK, but someone needs to build one of these cars. I'd almost change my Turquoise colors for a retro Morrison Snake Skinner. Daniel, white 13" Dymags???????:-D

Brett, Who in their right mind would want white wheels on a car?.... Crap...wait a minute!!!

The Morrison body is one of my all-time favorites. It's between that and Callaway. I'd love to build a Z like this one! The look is spot on IMHO.

It might be the SS II kit that I have.

Looks great, Ron!!

I really like the snake Skinner car that Daniel posted with the blue/white striping. Not quite a GS but similar. The paint scheme around the bottom sets it apart. The rear end looks like it has a taller flip-up at the top of the bumper plus the added lip spoiler. The taller flip-up is a Callaway Aerobody feature. The trim moldings on the rear bumper are also part of the hand laid fiberglass. Not seperate. Very do-able.

The front bumper extension looks like an IROC piece modified for fitment. The rockers and lower ear quarters are modified 80's ground effect treatments.

I like it. It's just the flavor of the month for me right now though. More of a curiosity than anything, probably. It sure would be a relief from the Turquoise though. LOL

I have 49th St Rockers to get done first though. They're close. I could have a set done by the end of June if I just burn some midnight oil.

I think I might be able to answer this question, the car came after the introduction of the Grand Sport, Corvette Fever did this one a project car for the magazine, I have never been able to track it down after it appeared in the magazine.

I just don't understand how such a GREAT and well designed piece could just fade away without a clue as to where the molds are. Pirate racing ran several different nose sections, some two piece and some one piece. I have the one piece aero nose on my race car. The piece was supposedly develope with Jim Minneker when he was racing C4s in the Bridgestone supercar series. Unfortunately this piece will not work with a street car. I just Love this nose airdam section and it just looks like the way the car should have come. I just cannot believe that they wouldn't have been able to sell a ton of these in the hey day of the C4. Very unfortunate but thanks for posting.

I am leaning heavily towards re-creating the body treatments at the moment, for my own car. Turquoise has ran its course for me.

There were a few sold, Tommy had problems with getting them produced and this was also towards the end of business closing and he was having alot of financial problems. He sold the sets of mold to 2 different individuals and never delivered complete sets to either person...

Now THIS is a hood to die for! Looks as though the Turq Monster will get a new coat of Morrison Snake Skinner Blue before the next Gathering.

Oh yeah, it's also getting complete Snake Skinner body treatments from Morrison's original molds. So long Turq

See it at next year's Gathering with any luck.

I have permission to use the molds for only my personal use. I'm so very grateful to the owner of this history.

The kit isn't all that complicated. A guy could make his own easily enough if he wanted.

I studied the kit last week and after I got home from BG. It looks like a GM, GTO kit was used and modified to Morrison's taste. The hood is the only complicated part.

I always take the cruise control, support bar and the ECM loose when I remove the battery. Pull it right up and out. Only takes a few minutes.

I've never removed the side gill.

Which came first? The chicken (Grand Sport) or the egg (Morrison Snake Skinner Package)?

While considering turning the Turq car into a Snake Skinner version of a Morrison car, I really didn't like the idea of copying a Grand Sport. It goes down a lot easier for me knowing that the Grand Sports were copied from The Morrison Snake Skinner instead.

Well, with the help of the Registry of Corvette Race Cars, I confirmed what I had originally thought.
The 1996 Grand Sport was copied from the Morrison Snake Skinner cars. It was a pet project of John Heinricy, who raced the Morrison cars. (I'm probably the only one who didn't know the answer to the question LOL)

Notes/Race History: In the 1992-93 timeframe, three new builds were developed for both IMSA (GTS class) and SCCA World Challenge (GT class) series. The cars were built on a standard Corvette chassis (strengthened and reinforced) and carrying the new Morrison Snakeskinner body work. Morrison ran one car as a developmental mule in the 1992 Mosport endurance race (SCCA) and then ran two cars in the 1993 IMSA series. These cars subsequently ran both IMSA and SCCA in 1994 and 1995. For 1993 (IMSA) the cars carried a ruby red and white paint scheme (40th anniversary). In 1994 they ran in a modified red/white/blue scheme. In 1995 the Grand Sport Color scheme was introduced. Power was from a ZR1 engine, tuned to individual series specifications. For 1994, two cars (# 93 and # 94 ran at Daytona and Sebring (IMSA) followed by five races (out of seven) in the SCCA World Challenge. Car # 91 was run only once at Mid-Ohio by Del Percilla. The same two cars ran again in 1995 but with the Grand Sport (blue and white) style paint scheme. The cars ran # 95 and # 96 in IMSA GTS-1 and # 93 and 94 in SCCA. A (possible new build) car ran as # 92 in 1995 for one race with Dale Brudenell driving at Road America; this car is thought to be a one-off rather than a re-body of the 1# 91 (1994) Del Percilla car. These cars were also used in the SCCA GT1 (club racing) and NASA circuits. Dale Brudenelll drove # 92 in SCCA GT1 and John Heinricy drove # 94 in several NASA events.

This guy used to spend some time on "team ZR-1" forum. His name is Terry can't remember last name. He is/was out of Florida. I was considering buying the kit from him years ago but I don't remember the particulars but some other guys were having problems with the guy and it scared me away
