Mike,
Probably my choice as well depending on costs (no commitment yet).
and muffler choice...
Is anyone familiar enough with SW mufflers to advise on noise levels for chambered versus S-pipe? I am a little familiar with B&B with x-pipe sound, are these louder or equivalent? I would imagine the S-pipe is quite a bit louder but how about the chambered?
Thanks,
Paul

Youre right !! I was wrong.. I wasnt looking at it that way ... I was looking at it kind of like We talked about different brand names OF ( whatever ) in fact my thoughts were ( as mentioned in another thread ) to make the x pipe into an H pipe . Not meaning to slap someones face..As the new generation says " my bad" ..
PS too I also did not know they were a ZR1 supporter . Summit makes an x pipe too ( not as good as SW) but their not a supporter.. Didnt mean any offense ..

The vacuum NPP exhaust flow control valves are a little hard to find. Dominic did find an off-shore maker of them, but as yet I've not finished researching a local vendor for their products.
Also, I may have found an alternative - also a vacuum actuated exhaust flow valve - for very reasonable cost from Summit Racing; have one on order for inspection, as a matter of fact. I will post up results when I get it in hand and can evaluate it a bit.
Stay tuned. The Registry is the place for all things ZR-1!!

Robert,
Is there one final check-off after this on order details? I ask because if it is an option to install the air pipes on my headers, I would like that and when it comes down to details of a final order I don't want that missed. I didn't see it in the pics of the ZR1FACTCAT sheet.
Thanks.

I do not know about gaskets. But I took this from their install .pdf
Install right and left headers using supplied bolts. Be sure flanges lay over guide
pins and flange lays flat on head. See note below for installing right header.

No gaskets with SW Headers....get Exhaust Manifold gaskets from Jerry's Exhaust Header Gasket (http://jerrysgaskets.com/store2/root/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=0&products_id=38)
I would use Stage 8 Header Bolts from Summit Racing and just discard the SW provided bolts that come with the Headers.

Just got done installing SW Headers on a 90' using Stage 8 bolts. They are about the same installing as other header bolts except you place the locks on which is really not that hard either. There is an advantage using Stage 8 bolts as they have an Allen socket as well as the hex head. Using Stage 8 I do not apply too much torque knowing the headers bolts are locked.

If you don't mind me asking do the Allen sockets come in handy on any hard to reach bolts ? They look good I think ill just get them. If they make install a bit easier then ill get them for sure. I need to get a mAnual what are the torque specs for header bolts ?

Yes....for two or three bolts the Allen socket is easier to reach with an Allen wrench.
The Stage 8 Exhaust Header Bolts have 7/16 inch hex heads with a 3/16 Allen socket in the center. I use a 1/4 inch socket wrench with a swivel and several extension lengths as required to tighten the Stage 8 bolts. I do not use a torque wrench as that would be next to impossible to accomplish with the tight spaces around the Headers. I also use a 7/16 flex head ratchet wrench. Typically, the torque for an 8mm bolt would be 19 ft lbs.

I have the 4 SW chrome tips on the 91' and just a few weeks ago got a set of SW for the 90' and with that set received the chrome rectangular box outlets exactly as you have.
But actually after I got the rectangular outlet boxes installed.....I like them as they fit perfectly in the cut out of the rear fiberglass. You just level the retangular outlet box so it is parallel with the cut out. You can get used to that look very fast ;)
SW provides four VERY SUBSTANTIAL CLAMPS for the exhaust Rectangular outlet box.....that is for sure.....:D
I do not have a photo handy but you get the picture :p
One little trick.....for installed SW Headers ZR1CORVOR and SW Exhaust ZR1CHAMSW.
Copper spacer added (two each 1 x 6 inch copper pipe
with coupler and end caps) to keep SW exhaust 1/4 inch
away from riding against Differential Housing. The end caps
and coupler actually keep the spacer in place without any ties.
I set the two rear hangers so they pull the
exaust up tight against the copper spacer. Also set the rear "L"
hanger so there is freedom of the exhaust system to move to
the rear at least 1/2 inch when hot.

Sorry but I'm pretty sure I'm looking at the muffler. When I got my SW Xpipe, it had the gang punched inserts which Al removed. My Dynomax mufflers don't look anything like that. They're straight thru.

They have another version of muffler that is louder and more directly straight thru. This chambered version has a little offset and an air gap to allow resonance into the packing plus the perforated tubes. I can tell already that it will still be pretty loud. I figure I can always go to a traditional turbo muffler again if needed.
my plan is to try and fit LS7 cats I have and go with this cat-back. hopefully putting catalysts back on the car will moderate some of the rumble.

I am soooo confused sometimes......:D
but on another subject....my X-pipes have the cross plates which mike100 does not have on his.

I have the same version (Offroad)......My SW exhausts are ZR1CHAMSW ......so I guess the same as mike100 ;)
And I get some resonance in some gears at some rpms but can shift out of resonance easy.
That SSW exhaust system look's great ! Workmanship is fantastic.
Please post up about noise/resonation.

Frank....I think you were asking Mike.....but.....I just took the 91' for a spin and no real resonance. It is loudest at 2,000 rpm with moderate throttle. It is really nice just cruzing in 4th or even 5th and letting off the throttle in 6th just coasting at 65 is just a nice hum.
Any time you step on the throttle you can definitely hear it but again....from inside with windows up (100 deg F outside) and air on it is very nice listening to
Temperature gage did never get over half way ;)
Going to try that system with the C6 ZO6 flapper's.

I'm setup for next Saturday with my exhaust guy so I should know then how crazy the SW muffs will be. I will be adding the LS7 cats so lets hope for some sanity in the resonance dept.
NPP valves from a c6 would probably be worth it since twin outlet mufflers are known to be loud on C4's.

I think you are talking the Chrome Retangular Tips that Mike received rather than individual Chrome cylindrical tips?
That installation is on my 90' just a couple weeks ago in SD.
This was taken during installation and they are not adjusted yet. The angle also does not show the great Chrome of each Rectangular Tip.

I can say this about that............I thought as Mike did.....WOW..I was expecting the four individual chrome cylindrical Tips from SW like I have on my 91'. These two Chrome Rectangular Tips (one each side) just will not look as good.
But.........But.....I changed my mind after I got them installed because the Chrome rectangular Tips fit so nice in that Exhaust body cutout which is also rectangular
I will not be converting to four individual Chrome cylindrical Tips on the 90' because I like the looks of those Chrome rectangular Tips matching the body exhaust cut out.
Also will not be converting to two Chrome Rectangular Tips on my 91' as I kind of got used to the four individual Chrome cylindrical Tips ;)
Both Types Look Good
