Without disclosing the location of your event, Texas Mile, Big Bend open road racing, Silver State Classic, whereever.... there are several places and opportunities that allow for a heavy foot to rest in the WOT position for a long time.

For me, I was very excited when I hit 172. So much more left to go. Just 8 more miles and my life could have finally began : ) "Life begins at 180mph".

I hit 176 in MT between Billings and Butte in 97.
I decided to wait for 180 when I had a helmet, roll cage and suit.

112, it's not the speed that worries me, it's the cops, lol. Need a radar detector if I want to go faster around here.

I did a buck-45 in AZ, but quite honestly, i've gone faster in my C6 and my 5-oh mustang. Maybe if I shift into 5th, then I can see what she really has.

I've done 135 in town, but after that the wind noise on the weatherstrip kinda makes me wonder.

Mines no match for Kevin but much better than 92.;) No jack stands either. Mine was really on the road an I really video taped it. And anybody that takes their car up to that speed and says they were'nt just a little scared is either a liar or crazy. And people that crazy usually don't live very long.

92 mph in a ZR-1 is like dating your favorite porn star, and just giving her a kiss goodnight.
Revs is what the ZR-1 is famous for..... low end torque? Notsomuch.
Well, happy 1st and 2nd gear to ya.

For me, just 173mph. The usual excuses, public road, brand new car, son in the passenger seat. The real reason? Top end is very scary, and sustained top end gives you way to much time to think about it. :pray

The 92 was kind of "tounge in cheek" knowing I'd raise a few eye brows. Truth is, I drive my Turq car hard every time I drive it. Very acquainted with the rev limiter. Haha

Still, I don't mind being laughed at for not hitting triple digits on public roads its just too irresponsible for my taste and proves no serious point.

Yup, kissing would not be on the menu. That is like driving under 100. And just reving her engine would not be fun either. But then triple digits is not for everyone on a public road with no one else on it and a speed limit of "Reasonable and prudent" like Montana.

Out here in Connecitcut; every once in awhile we can hit triple digits on some on ramps.

About 142 or 143 on the first part of a 2.3 mile stretch of isolated, no cross roads two lane straight country roads.....It happened from zero up and I only glanced at the speedo as things was happening fast and then I let off. Wish I knew but it was just a fraction of the distance for that 2.3 miles......and I was in fourth gear with much more available......figured it out later that it was about 205 feet or 2/3rds of a football field every second. The trees move by you very quickly at anything like this....

Not only is the C4 ZR-1 my all time favorite car, but you fellow ZR-1 owners are all pretty cool too.

And what is really cool is that we here can have a post like this without someone getting all "PC" or "postal" by reprimanding us to save it for the track. We're all responsible adults, so no need to even go there... Try a post like this over on the other forum and besides "being against the rules", just stand back and watch the posts.:blahblah:

What we are, are true blue car guys.... The real ones. And we appreciate a true performance and legendary car. And no, we don't all have to be pushin' triple digits to appreciate our cars.

Kiss a porn star? That's funny stuff man! I don't think I could do that either!!!

Ok, 163 about 8 or 9 years ago in my '94. In my area the opportunity for 150 a few different times has come a little easier. Some day though, I will find that perfect road and opportunity! Did I ever tell you how much I love these cars???? ...And the sound that engine makes...:censored::):p:worship: Yee Haaa!

But that's the problem John, you do know....exactly. :p

Seriously though, I think 150 is my public road red line. There's a nice straight 2 lane 10 minutes from my house, out near PBIR, nothing but grazing cows on both sides. You can let her rip.
Past 150 the Z hunkers down and really feels comfortable, but the digits start climbing slower and you have way to much time to think about what can go wrong. And if it did, you'd be toast without a roll cage.

That is so true of a fairly stock car (like mine) when it creeps past 155.
There a fine location here for 155 here called the I205 bridge. It goes a bit over 2mi. and is 5 lanes wide each way. Part of it banks left but by the time you straighten out and hit 5th there is enough road to do it every time before a hard brake and a 25mph exit (at ~60) followed by an S curve.
Late at night (1-2pm) there's nobody on it and the likely hood of animals out there is very low. The LT5 music at high rpm, nothing like it.

The nice new frontage road just south of Kellogg/400 highway is my runway......The White Monster will do 30-150-30 easily within the curves; about 3/4 of a mile! My top speed was 169 in my old '90

When I ran it up to the low 140's that day on that stretch of road I went the 2.3 miles after lifting off, turned around in a gas station lot there then waited until no one was ahead of me and ran it more sedately on the way back and took more time running it to 125 mph which seems so effortless in the Z. The next time I'm out that way I'll try and take someone along to watch the speedo and note the mileage on the odometer to see how long a distance it takes. It really does not matter as it gets it in a hurry regardless.

There are no cross streets, no homes so no driveways and you just need to wait and be sure no one is ahead of you. There could be other cars coming towards you but your view is well ahead of you so if you need to slow you can.

Also, since fines are the steepest in the country for speeding in Va. you can be fairly certain there will not be a law officer for the 20 seconds or so you are well over the 55 mph speed limit.

It is flat out exhilarating. I still want to run it on an interstate up to 150 for a couple minutes but was going to do so in W. Va. and that may have to wait given the change in schedule. I'm curious about the 1/2 runs that will come fairly soon in the Chicago area as that is double the quarter mile drag distance and our cars, especially tuned ones, really begin to shine in 3,4,5th gears with the rpms piling on the mph at greater rates.

201 on radar at 2002 Big Bend Open Road Race. Disqualified for too fast. Many times over 180. And I do not think I was scared or crazy. But the adrenaline was flowing. Going in a straight line at 200+ was a piece of cake. Going 160 around some of the corners was a lot more interesting. :)

Not me. No videos of my runs. Also after reading my post I felt I ought to comment on the "not scared" comment I made. I have been scared, very scared. Anyone who was out in the jungles of South Vietnam knows what I am talking about. What I felt when driving my car was not anything like that. I was just having fun driving my Z. first day in the LSV, 155 with Larry Merow taking it for a "last test drive"

was coming up on a stop light when he slammed on the brakes. Larry wasn't afraid to "use the car"

the front amolds went from shiney silver to black in a hurry.

haven't been that fast since.

plenty of times up around 140 though set cruise control at 130 in the old DRM on the BG parkway for 20 minutes. very smooth and nice road way back then.

now in VA it's a bit too risky to let it hang out.

Curtis What I meant by being just a little scared was not so much going 179 but more so going 179 on a public road for damn near 5 miles without dropping below 159 and what could happen if the cops saw me coming. It would surely get my Z impounded and me thrown in jail. And my license revoked for life. I'd definitely feel better about doing it at BBORR. But I did what I did years ago and its water under the bridge now.
By the way Curtis how have you been buddy? I think the last time I saw you was at Coreys a few years ago.

How do you handle the cooling issues to go that fast?? My 91 ZR-1 overheats even on tracks like AMP and Road Atlanta (nowhere near those speeds) - I have to dial rpms back just to stay out for the session...(if this is too tech feel free to start new thread or whatever - but I'm desperate)
Thanks!
