Hello everyone . As I mentioned in another thread , I am hoping to purchase a 1990 ZR1 in a year or so . Of course I have been scowering the web trying to gather as much info as I can regarding this type of car . I have had a ton of luck finding technical vids and web pages ( such as this excellent site )with info on the ZR1 . The one issue that is bugging me is that I can only find very little video coverage of reviews for the 1990 ZR1 ! . Mostly for sales .
This car was the first king of the hill and yet I cannot find a Car and Driver Review or any other type of mainstream media accept for Motor Trend .
I was hoping that some of the members here could send me a link so that I can watch the history of this car and its first showing and reviews to the public in the year that it was put on the market , 1990 .

Thanks in advance .

I can still find nothing on the ZR1 . Lots of stuff on stinking Porsche , but nothing on the ZR1 . Is there some kind of conspiracy ? Was the king of the hill title a hoax ? No vids from Car & Driver . No vids from Popular Mechanics . No vids from any car mags of the day . What the heck is going on here :(

You need to get/read the book: Heart of the Beast for a great read on the development of the car/motor. Additional pictures are here.

Thanks for the wicked link to pics . Excellent . I will look for that book tomorrow .
I still find it strange that there are very few vids or reviews on this monster vehicle . You can find a ton of stuff on other types of cars during the year of 1990 .
Thanks again for the link and the info

Twenty three years ago most of us did not have computers.
Magizines ether came in the mail or we bought them at the Drug store.
Most of what you are looking for never existed.

You might not find what you are looking for on the internet, but there are videos out there for sale periodically or folks making copies. I know I have videos of the world record run and release in Geneva as well as some other footage collected over the years. I would not let the lack of videos available discourage you from getting one (or two or more) of these legendary cars despite the lack of video reviews available on the internet. Best wishes.

Oh trust me ,,, I am not discouraged one bit . I am like Saron from The Lord Of The Rings . My mind is bent on it . You see , I drove a C4 in The Escort Endurance Series back in the 80's . AT Brainerd Minnesota I had the C4 hitting 160 mph on the drag straight , then not braking for corner one , then exit turn one at 140 mph . Holy crap I thought . And the car I drove was 400 lbs over weight compared to the competition !!!. I have had the hot's for a vette since then . A good friend of mine's dad had a GM dealer ship and brought a brand new 1990 ZR1 to my house so I got to test drive it . I wanted one then but they cost over $70,000 up here in Canada . The funny thing is , he never opened up the hood . OMG . I had no idea there was a work of art under there till recently . Actually I find it kinda scary as it looks a bit like the creature from Alien when it grabs your face . This monster intake is having it's way with that all aluminum 32 valve double double overhead cam motor :) :) :) Very Scary ,,,YES ,,, I mean look at it . There is nothing like it anywhere Who knows what it will become when you turn the power key ,,,sorry I am rambling now and scaring myself lol !!!
Can't wait to get one .

I did find a preview for the book though !

There were plenty of print reviews on the ZR-1 back in the day. Car and Driver had the famous cover, "The Corvette from Hell". I've never searched the net for them, but they should be out there.
It would be would be a nice project for a registry member to digitize and catalog that stuff for future owners.

If you're looking for a good video to whet your appetite for getting a C4 ZR-1, try this one that's found in another thread on this forum.

Very true but when you look on youtube you find a plethera of reviews of other types of cars from 1990 . Top gear , Car and Driver , and others were on TV so I have to disagree there . Motor Trend were the only ones to review from what I can find . But you won't find much on the 1990 and on ZR1's .
Thanks for the reply

Now you are talking TV shows.
You were asking about magizine's; only the magizine's that had TV shows back then would be on video.
I don't remember Top Gear in the early 90's.
There was Motor Week, Car & Driver and NASCAR Today.
Is that of any help?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and story. What a great experience you had and you are obsessed like many of us with the mystique of this special car. Yes, I agree about how the LT5 looks and it can be intimidating to a newcomer to look at and wonder how it all works. Glad to hear you are sold on it and understand how marvelous the LT5 is. You could contact LGAFF on here and buy one of his CDs where he put tons of work to put many magazine articles about the King of the Hill dating back from its introduction and inception. Best wishes and can't wait to hear more when you get yours and join the family.....sorry, I guess you already are part of the family.

Hey thanks for all the links . I saw the one with John and Rick Mears . Very enjoyable . Makes you want to jump in the car . I sure miss driving a C4 on a race track :) :) :) .
I have not seen the factory one before though . Thanks .
But why is all this hooplaw for the 1992 . Why did they wait 2 years to do the promotional stuff and not with the 1990 model .
Not trying to be a pain or complain here . I am just curious as to why it took 2 years .
Maybe because they went from 375hp to 405hp !!!? Thinking out loud :)

Thanks again for the great links

I was lucky enough to score a few books from amazon.ca . I ordered , The Heart Of The Beast , Corvette From The Inside and Corvette,s Originality Guide C4 1984 to 1996 .

Looking forward to owning the books and then of course the beast itself . Found a 1990 car here in Toronto Canada for $15,500 with 102 klm or 60,000 miles for you guys . One owner . Also a 1993 ZR1 , red in and out , 60,000 miles for $20,000 or best offer . Crazy low prices up here for such a wicked engineered monster :) :) :) . Of course there some way over priced ones also . One guy wants $43,000 for his car due to the low miles . Low miles means I would need to change all the gaskets , injectors , belts , rubber .
I would prefer the higher mileage ones as I know they were used as they should have been . Not sitting there rotting .
