Well Gang
Just an update for the Gathering BBQ at Auto Masters. (Thursday July 16th, 5pm, at Auto Masters).
We’ve got over 40 registered as of today. We’re either going to have a nice quaint party, or some better start registering ASAP. J
We normally see about 100 here so there are lots of you yet to sign up. For food planning purposes, we will not be taking unregistered folks until all the registrants have eaten.
I have heard the Registry is not donating to the party this year so we have to rely on your contributions so see our registration page on our website at:
http://automastersofbg.com/?page_id=1288 (http://automastersofbg.com/?page_id=1288)
Registration ends May 10th.
Some other news. I received a call from an original ZR-1 Registry member who used to travel with us to various events like Carlisle and the Legend Lives. He acquired a ton of memorabilia along the way and has nature would have it, he has long ago sold his car. Not long ago his Lovely wife was going through the closet trying to free up some space and kept moving boxes until she opened one and found nothing but Corvette stuff. She opened another and same thing. Come to find out, the closets, attic and garage were FULL of ZR-1 Corvette stuff. Can you imagine that? J
Well, he called me and decided that he should send us his cache of stuff and we would find the appropriate manner to “dispose” of it. The items included Original LT5 Plug wires, pewter LT5 statue, the matching Techman statue, press kits, original STS training kits with manuals and videos, engine parts, new T-shirts from all over including the “500 at Carlisle” and a brand new NCM Grand Opening shirt, still in the plastic! He went on and on with promo car collections, owner’s kits, posters etc.etc.etc. He’s going to get at least some of the stuff here by the Gathering so we can start the project. Project?
Yes, as I said earlier, we are going to build an area at the Museum to honor the ZR-1 owners who have passed away, but we are going to add to that with the addition of anyone who wants a brick in the new Owner’s Area. Some of you might not know that the ZR-1 owners kept the NCM alive during some very tough times. In fact, the museum would not be here today if not for the loyal support of the ZR-1 owners from the very beginning. But today we have been mostly forgotten. There are no ZR-1 items in the store, and usually just a car or two on display. With this contribution of memorabilia, we are going to auction, eBay or whatever these items and pool these funds and once again support the NCM by building “The ZR-1 Owner’s Memorial”. Depending on the funds, we will buy a large 24x24” brick ($2,500), and surrounding smaller bricks ($100 each). If we come up really well, I would also like to put add a bench near the large brick so we can sit and reminisce those good ‘ol days when the King of the Hill was the talk of the entire automotive community. We will offer some of these items at both the BBQ and the banquet auction.
I’m also finding a bunch of stuff around here I might as well get rid of….:-) Might even find time to make a dvd or two for The World Record Run, or Thunder at Stillwater, etc. Might make a nice table decoration?
So signup and get ready to have a great time gang. There’s a nice big juicy Ribeye with your name on it!

Why isn't this an official registry event?

it's a shame I can't make it and it's also a shame this isn't an official registry event. I'm sure those in attendance will have a great time, and if some of the party favors could find their way into a box with my name on it that would be awesome ;)

First I'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to Jim for hosting these popular
events. In the past some of these have been supported by donations from
individual members and sometimes with donations from the registry itself.

The board has debated this matter at length and made the decision not to
provide financial assistance to any vendor-organized events going forward.
We do send Jim all our best wishes and hope the event continues to be a
success into the future.

I stay at the Continental Inn across from the NCM, not super nice but I don't plan to be in the room much at all. Its clean and not half as much per night as the Holiday Inn. Downside is you have to drive back from the Holiday Inn after hanging out for the night and that can sometimes not be so good... Also the hotel has plenty of trailer parking. Plus side is it is 5 minutes from the NCM and 1 minute from JVD's.

The decision seems self-defeating to me. Let's take a debate to the members-only section.

I feel the same way Glenn.Take it to the members-only section.
We are supposed to support our vendor's , that is the club that I have been involved with all along. The trouble with the board is every little thing get's debated in extreme length.

We do support our venders we buy parts from them they repair/upgrade our cars etc.

Why would my membership fees go to pay for advertising ones business.
I don't care if it's Marc H. JVD,SGC,DRM or Lingenfelter.
If any one of them wanna have a BBQ they can pay for it themselfs not with my fees.

We have a few members with businesses here in Chicago area that we have events send them some checks.

The club is not a walfare.

If a dime goes to any business please refund my membership then the club can walfare whoever they want.

Mr JVD please stop dissing and bringing up about the club no paying for your business i'm getting tired of you trying to get new and naive members on your side to squeeze money from the club.
For the new members this has been the rule for years nothing new.

Please stop dissing the club you are not a member of.
Be thankful the club lets you post while dissing and trying to squeeze money from the club.

I don't see Marc H, SGC, Corey on here trying to squeeze money from the club, they all have BBQ's every year and charge $0 per person.

Life is simple
You don't like the club don't post in it.

Can give folks the wrong impression of a poster.

I assume posting under the influence (of something) is involved with this post, as it is rife with mispellings, repeated points, and is unnecessarily critical of another poster. The time stamp was also 4:01 am.

I didn't see JVD's post as dissing the club or trying to squeeze money out of anyone. It simply posted a simple fact, that the club leadership voted to end funding of his bbq.

This is disappointing.

If you do a search you will find Mr JVD brings this matter up a few times, implying that the club is not paying/supporting his BBQ.

The club is supporting him by letting him post on the registry if he
couldn't post here he wouldn't be having any BQB.

He needs to make a big boy decision, do it or don't, simple.

Since your a new member club never paid for business BBQ's/events.
If the club paid before it was a mistake till it was brought to their attention.

For those that are so disapointed open your check books and send Mr JVD some money.

I don't see how paying a business to have BBq's with member fees makes sense to anyone.

I like Corey, Marc and Lingenfelter should we also send checks to them, come on really.

A little common sense here boys.

Where am i critical to another member maybe opinionated but not critical.

How's my spelling :-)

Pete. (Hiccup) There's still hope! :p

FYI- Yes, I am a member of the current club and another one long ago. You might say I've been around since the beginning of the ZR-1 hobby. I have a LONG history of organizing events for the enjoyment of everyone who participates. As a result of those events, we have also donated generous amounts of money to various groups including the ZR-1 Registry and the NCM as well. The fact is, I've never gained any revenue from any events. But I don't really need to justify anything I do or have done to you now do I? You will forget it in the morning anyway....

We actually never accepted anything from the Registry club until 2010 when Jerry Downey and Jim Voter asked if they could contribute and let the BBQ become part of the Registry's official events. They said that they had received so many positive comments regarding the BBQ, they wanted to become an official part of it. We had also lost our donated rental chairs and equipment that year so we agreed to "work together". We received a check for $300, about the cost of the chairs and tables alone. That year we served well over 200 and raised enough funds to make some very worthy troops in a very bad place a little more comfortable.

Can give folks the wrong impression of a poster.

Ryan,
Maybe we should switch to near beer for "Pete's Sake!" (hiccup)

In any case, the main reason we are asking for registrations is so we can keep track of the free-loaders who make it a practice to crash the party, eat seconds, drink 'til their hearts content, then leave without so much as a thank you. It's not fair to all of you who play by the rules.

We have a terrific menu. 3/4in thick marinated ribeye or seasoned chicken breast, homemade potato salad, homemade BBQ beans, Baked potatoes , peppers and onions, rolls, etc. Bring your favorite beverage or enjoy water and sodas on ice. Rumor had it there would once again be some funny looking aluminum cylinders sitting in ice at the rear of the shop....

We will have a fun time whether there are 50 or 150, it really doesn't matter.

Oh and uh Pete? I hope you change your mind and attend. I'd love to meet you! I'll even reserve a steak with your name on it....or are you a chicken kinda guy?

Life really IS simple, isn't it?
