I was thinking about installing these because of all the water that puddles there after washing the car. I'm not to keen on drilling holes though. I was just wondering from anyone that's installed them how satisfied they are with them and if it was worth installing them.
Thanks,
Joe

If you pop the hatch, you'll see a small channel between the weatherstripping and the gas cap door (at least it's like that on my 1990) for water drainage. If your talking about the corners towards the front, I just stick the corner of my shami in there, when drying, to soak up the water. You could drill a hole if you want. But I'd be cautious about drilling holes anywhere.

Thanks for the reply to both you and Jeff. Yes, I am talking about the corners toward the front. They sell a drain kit but I'm a little leary about drilling holes in the body. I use a chamois also but mine doesn't dry it totally. The link below shows the kit I'm referring to.

Don't drill any holes. Just swipe your wife's turkey baster
when she's not looking...
Works great!

I thought about that too or using a plastic 60cc syringe.
Thanks,
Joe

Actually, I use the turkey baster to suck the water out of the hood lock holes. Thanks Doug, now it has another use.

Steve
Don't put it back in the kitchen drawer.
Your T-giving turkey may taste funny...

I have them in my 95 and had them in my 93. Worked great. The 93's went in with no problems but the instructions then and now that come with the kit are inadequate. (Got mine from Mid America). There is a significant wiring harness on the right side right about where you want to drill. When I started to drill in the 95 on the right and got through the fiberglass, my lights blinked so I stopped. Had Marc do it when the car was in for other work. He found that I had just scraped a couple of wires and he taped them up. But he recommends that you remove the carpeting etc from the inside so you can see what you are doing. You need to drill through both the top and then down into the wheel well. Then make sure you seal them well. You will encounter a lot of yellowish sticky gunk that is used by GM for sealing weatherstrippng (I think). Good luck! -- Bob

The bulb syringe is a good idea too FU2, and thanks Bob for the information. After reading what you wrote I think for now I'll pass on installing them. I will try a turkey baster or bulb syringe and see how that works. Thanks for the information I really appreciate it, you probably saved my some headaches with the potential wiring issue.

I hang a paper towel in the corners to draw out the wash juice.

Just something about drilling in a car already subject to flex / stress...

I installed them four years ago and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I located them as far from the edge as I could and painted the base. You have to be really looking for them to notice.

That's good to know, it makes me feel more comfortable if I decide to install them. You would have thought GM would have done that to begin with. I'm assuming that would be the case with all C4's having water collect there.
Thanks,
Joe
