Registered for the event online; paid for a banquet Saturday night as well. All done. I guess they will either mail me a badge or I'll pick it up when I arrive and first get to the museum at a sign in desk. Should be fun as it will be a long drive on the 15th, 650 miles to B.G. Let's see, on Interstates at 70 law abiding miles per hour that will be?

Paid for the banquet but I skipped the Autocross. I figure that's 4 hours a group of us could take on some mountain roads.

The last time I went we had a Thursday road trip to the Heaven Hills Distillery Bourbon Heritage Center. About a two hour drive (looks like about 80 miles or so) on nice winding non-interstate roads then lunch and a tour of the distllery with tasting afterwards. I enjoyed that. Might even go up there again this year. --Bob

You wont even get near the mountains in 4 hours. There might be some local roads.

Looking forward to it.

There's a couple of 1.5 hour late afternoon drives on the agenda and some talks I want to hear. I'll probably watch some of the Autocross, meet the various groups, do the barbecue, the banquet and if there is a drive to a distillery as mentioned and it's at a time when I'm not wildly interested in some event I'm up for it. I like driving the Z! I'm at the main hotel. I had hoped to be able to go through the factory but that appears to be out until September according to GM. Wonder what the weather will be like as mine is so much more comfortable for me to drive with the Targa top in the back instead of on top!

We will be there and can’t wait!!! We have been attending since 2001 this year looks like it is going to be good. We are looking forward to seeing all of our old friends and new faces. We will be bringing food for the BBQ night as well. Doing the autocross, banquet, and will watch the drag racing; if we can get it worked out. Heck if not there is always an open highway somewhere right? (Kidding we don’t need that… again  )

Can someone tell me how it all works with the gathering ? do we meet at at the museum? is that where we pay for the banquet ? or etc
Reservation for gathering...$35.00.
Reservation for banquet...$35.00.
Is this price for each person? or couples ? Is the banquet worth the $35.00 ? what do we do during it ? sit and hear talks ? I get bored easy :)

Corb,
The best thing is to just review the itinerary. But from my limited experience (2): Wed night everybody meets in the Holiday Inn University Plaza-Bowling Green atrium/patio for a pizza and beer social. Everybody ends up in the parking lot around the cars for as long as you want. It's the first night of the famous Bob G and Pete motorhome meet.
Thurs AM, it's about a 15 min drive to the NCM for check-in. There are special ZR-1's on display inside. There are discussions in a really nice auditorium usually given by the bigwigs and stars in our community. I don't fall asleep because I'm interested in the topics, ranging from Z maintenance, science, modification, and racing history. There are drags at Beech Bend, autocross, depending on a lot of factors.
Friday again begins at the NCM, more talks. In the past, tours of the BG Corvette assembly plant (< 5 min away) are given: I'm not sure if they are available this time. Friday night Jim Van Dorn hosts a BBQ at his shop (again ~5 min from the NCM). JVD slaves over the grill while his beagle just lays there and sleeps. Occasionally he barks (the dog, not JVD).
Sat again to the NCM and meetings/talks I think there is a shine and show contest. There are scenic drives to see the countryside (bourbon!), and drives to other destinations of Corvette interest (Frame manufacturer for the C6). Sat night is a buffet dinner at the NCM with an auction: kinda cheezy. They had a cake shaped like an LT5. My guess is that most everybody goes, and for $30-35 you won't go broke. Grand Sport and Callaway guys are there in surprising numbers.
I'm sure I've left out stuff, and this is JMHO. The best part is meeting all the people you just know as a name and avitar and seeing that they are just as crazy as you/I am (about their cars).
Oh yeah, there are always things to buy. Some vendors show up (I remember SW), the NCM has some good stuff, and ZR-1 momentos are available. Cool to get stuff signed. We are crazy!

PS: Just thought of another way to look at it. As long as you are going, you might as well go to the events unless you have something better to do.

Wednesday @ the Holiday Inn Lobby. The club sponsors beer and the best locally made pizza! Starts at 6:30pm.

Thursday night is "Jim Van Dorn's" BBQ, but this year he has a sign up dinner $20 (steak / chicken dinner) Check his website.

Friday is Chicago's BBQ in the holiday inn's parking lot. (this is something special! Some Lousiana and Chicago boyz have something special planned!!!!)

Most go to the Banquet Dinner Saturday and it's set up in the Skydome around the cars! First time there!

We are working on Drag Racing Thursday... Lots of interesting cars getting signed up!!!

There are some interesting speakers and seminars too.

I’ve invited another guest speaker for this year’s BBQ at the Gathering. Some of you might remember the original Corvette Action Center. It was originally staffed by Gordon Killabrew, Jerry Watts, and Harold White. I was talking to Jerry yesterday and invited him to talk at our BBQ. I explained that some of what we all think of “old stuff” is actually new to many new owners and some of you old dudes who have forgotten the good ‘ol days. J
He’s going to check with Judi and see what they can arrange.
I’ll tell ya, back in those days I came to work at 4:30am my time because I knew they were working at the plant already (6:30 their time). I couldn’t wait to get updates as far as production VIN’s coming through, checking on orders for my buddies, lots of things. If Jerry can make it, you’ll have a chance to hear some interesting stories about the build of the ZR-1s.
And there was much more than the build. We actually took some out for “testing” and it was amazing how each one was different. Some were up on horsepower (most of the white ones) and some were very low on power. They were mostly purple and turquoise models…
We’ve already got 28 registered including some notorious names from the past. It’s gonna be fun!

We should be able to get a lower rate at the Holiday Inn being that we have such a large group. I'm pretty sure the Holiday Inn preferred rate is less than we are paying , a better rate would help out our member's.

I just checked the NCM agenda for the Gathering and did not see any mention of an auction or similar attraction for the banquet. Will there be anything besides the meal?

Also, is the Registry going to be conducting any raffles, drawings, silent auction or similar activity at the Gathering?

Point me in the right direction if I missed it. If not, don't you think vendor, private, NCM donations that will go home with some lucky attendee, should be published to create interest in attending the banquet?

Well Gang, the BBQ dinner tickets are in. BBQ reg deadline May 12th.

Steaks CHicken COLD BEER, and FRIENDS!!

Well, we ordered some special items to be used for your dinner tickets here at the 2013 BBQ, May 16th. I think we got all the “good” colors. Can’t seem to find the purple or turquoise but I hear Hib and Kimberly won’t come anyway…..Breck neither.

And remember, only those registered get one! Deadline, May 12th.

I guess two of your cars do fit into that category. Are you bringing the Dk Purple 95 to BG?

That dark purple "grew" on me. Another super color would be Joe's car.

Jerry

Great points! The NCM has never done this in the past but
we should look into it! Thanks

We are doing the same thing we do each year with drinks before
dinner, dinner and the auction after

We will have the raffle for the SW headers too!

Again thanks for the input Jerry!!

David

funny I won an autographed dealer promo car in a silent auction years ago

I had a narrow body Dark Purple 95 and that car was gorgeous.
Joe's Aqua is also a very good looking car.

I am guessing with age comes maturity. I have never liked red corvettes ever. Now I own two one year only color red Corvettes.
