OK y'all it's official. There will be a ZR-1 Gathering West this year! WooHoo!! I'm stoked! The dates for the Gathering will be 26-29 Oct 2006. (Thursday - Sunday) Those of us that are organizing the event wanted to get the word out early regarding dates for those that need to make vacation/travel arrangements. Events planned include Kart Racing, Banquet with Guest Speaker, Road Course Racing, Poker Run, Multiple Cruises through some VERY awesome country, plenty of time to gamble and get this....

MILE RUN SHOOTOUT AT NELLIS AFB ON THE RUNWAY
It isn't guaranteed yet but we are 95% confident that it will happen.

There will be a small get together much like the Gathering on Wednesday 25 October in the evening (no actual events on Wednesday). Events will begin bright and early on Thursday, 26 October.

I will post more information about it when I have it. This will be the first of many "Gathering West" events. Make your travel plans accordingly and come on out! It looks like the hotel wil be the newly built Santa Fe Station in the north part of Las Vegas (please do not book your room yet...we are getting a special group rate). Details will be coming shortly. Also during this same timeframe...NHRA Las Vegas Nationals...WAY cool...

If you would like to indicate that you WILL attend or maybe attend...please do so. If you are a Las Vegas local that would like to help out...please e-mail me at guinnessdood@yahoo.com

Uly,
I read at the CF that the Wing Commander OK'ed the Mile Run. I need to read all that over here to stay. I love my car and I want to read about ZR-1's here, not over at CF. Thanks

Any more info on this gathering? Times and so on. I probably won't bring the Z due to the great possibility of crappy weather around Ely that time of year. Also I would be a long way from home if something was to happen to it. I and a friend are flying down though. I sure hope to see some bad *** Z's at this baby.

I actually read about at the CF. I don't really like that cause I pay for this forum and I would sure like to see it flourish more.

The Wing Chief of Staff just approved the Mile Shoot-out and a possible race against one of the fighters for the winner...

All,

OK...here's what's up with the Gathering West.

We need everyone that plans to attend and will be
staying at Santa Fe Station to call the Santa Fe
Station and make your reservation. Remember...you can
cancel your reservation if you have to...but the idea
is to get the rooms booked so that we don't lose them
at our discounted price! They don't allow us to hold
the rooms all the way up to the beginning of the
event.

Would like to know about interest in a Evening
Banquet/Dinner with a guest speaker... (please e-mail
me with your thoughts about this...good or bad)

Nellis AFB Mile Run is still planned as a primary
event to be held on Saturday, Oct 28th. We have been
working with the SCCA with regard to insurance and
setting up the event. In the event that the Mile Run
does not work out...our alternative event will be an
Autocross with the SCCA.

The Gathering West Registration page will be up within
the next week and I will post the website so everyone
that plans to attend can register. The registration
fee will be $75. The fee will include Commerative
Glassware, Trophies, and the Wednesday Evening Social
(Oct 25th).

Road Racing at the Outside Road Course at Las Vegas
Motor Speedway is planned for Sunday, Oct 29th in
conjunction with Lapping Days (www.lappingdays.com).
The cost is $240.

There will be two or three cruises.
1.) Valley of Fire (Saturday Oct 28th) - about an
hour north of Las Vegas. This tour will take place
after the Nellis AFB event and will stop at Gary
Patterson's place for a BBQ and a Tech Session. The
BBQ cost will be $15 per person and include food and
drinks. The tech session will be in Gary's garage (he
has a lift) and include changing out radiator hoses
(new Samco Hoses) and possibly the radiator and
thermostat. A plenum pull and secondary
troubleshooting session will happen at the same time
in the space next to the lift. The tech session will
be hosted by Marc Haibeck.
2.) Red Rock Canyon (Friday Oct 27th) - We did this
tour in March. It is beautiful! A 13 mile loop
through some really gorgeous country.
3.) Hoover DamCruise/Tour (Thursday Oct 26th) -
Cruise to Hoover Dam and tour the dam. or as an
alternative...Cruise Around Town - Just as it
says...cruising around Las Vegas.

Kart Racing (Thurs or Fri) - Fast Lap Indoor Kart
Racing in 200CC karts...very fast and very fun...heat
races and a final race...

POSSIBLE....needs further discussion regarding
times....Morning Tech Sessions (Thurs&Fri Oct
26th&27th) - Technical Q&A discussions in the morning
at Santa Fe Station. Various Topics...come out for
coffee and donuts (no cops allowed!)

Hi Y'all!
I'm not sure if this is the right place, but I'm trying to email
Lane Goldstein (Fastlane) to invite him to the ZR-1 Gathering West.
His emails bounce back, and I can't find his website anymore.
HELP!?!
Can't believe he has totally abandoned his legacy..........:)

Guys and Gals!
Today is the last day to register at the Santa Fe Station Hotel and Casino in
Las Vegas for the ZR1 Gathering West. After today, the rooms will be lost and
good luck finding a room anywhere in Las Vegas. If you are even considering going, get a room at SFS: you can always cancel up to 48 hrs in advance.
If you get a room and have to cancel, let us know before you cancel.

Anybody going to the Gathering West that has fixed a loose steering wheel? Mine rocks from side to side, so the nuts are loose down inside the column. Is this something that can be done in a short time at one of the tech sessions? Anyone interested in fixing this there, or helping me do it quickly?

OK, enough questions.

Thanks for the consideration.

Any recommendations on what to check on the car for the high speed runs that may occur there. Got two weekends left.

Thanks

What an incredible time, especially for those of us who didn't break
down or get a ticket! The Hanselman's and Patterson's
were fantastic with their hospitality. Late night car BS sessions, eating, gambling, driving fast and slow- what a blast! Meeting midwest and east (and north) ZR1 people was great. Tech sessions were informative, but I feel sorry for leaving Gary with a torn apart car. Maybe put it back together next year?
Sorry I didn't recognize MOM or Mim without their Z's. Dig, Dig.
Lets do it again!
