Frank,
Redline has what looks like a pretty nice wheel cover but it needs to be installed
(See video). They're looking for someone to do the installs here in the States.

I have the full set from them. Wheel cover, shifter boot, console cover and e-brake cover. They're good quality I haven't found anyone to do the wheel yet though, the installers they listed didn't return calls or emails. Redline themselves are very good to work with.

I think the trick might be to buy a used wheel. Doesn't need to be in good shape because the skin is supposed to be taken off and replaced with the one from Redline. They have an option of extra padding also.

That is going to be my approach too. Need to find someone who can do the stitching though.

A wrap is different than a restore/rebuild. If you look at their sample for a C4 that wheel should have "depressions" at 2:30 and 9:30 for your thumb. Their product doesn't really appear to be a fit in those areas or does it appear to be the same side to side. That is a wrap and not a restore/re-build.
If you supply a core that is cut and nicked the cuts and nicks will show through the new wrap! There's customarily a charge for pad but it's not necessarily "more" it's to cover the damage. There's many vendors here in the US that will do most anything that you want. They're "experienced" and have larger production facilities. I've done several for used cars that had damage or just weren't "pretty". Next to a "shiny straight hood" the steering wheel gets "first attention" from a prospective buyer. I haven't had anything done for a few years but I'd be somewhat skeptical of a product that was sublet to who knows who. An acquaintance just did a wheel on his Z06 to match the '12 GS stitched dash that he had bought for his '08 I think, shift boot and all. It was quite nice. I don't recall who. I used a facility in Louisiana and one in Florida, Louisiana vendor slips my mind but Florida was: http://www.aglausa.com/p/home.html
They lean heavily on higher ended imports I believe but their work is first class. They do baseball stitch etc. Would they install someone else's wrap? I don't know but the more capable/skilled the installer the finish of the product generally reflects that. You might send them a skin and they might refuse to install, considering it an inferior product. I'd want someone doing mine that I had a good deal of confidence in. The used core is fine but not all are considered a good core!
That might be an option for DaveK - send them his product for an opinion.
DaveK - what year were you doing? Do you have a core?

WV,
The OEM skin on the wheel is removed prior to installing the Redline skin. Its a complete replacement, not just a cover. I know someone here in Chicago that does automotive interiors. I'll ask if they may be interested.
Take a look at the link I posted for Redline.

I dont quite understand how this wrap thing works, sounds like recovering the steering wheel.I had DSV in Texas recover my wheel a few years ago and it came out better than OEM if thats possible and I got my wheel done, not an exchange. It wasnt even close to the price of the wheel wrap in question, mine was $400 but couldnt have been happier with the results. What Ive done to protect the wheel was got one of those cheap wheel covers at the auto parts store, doesnt look too tacky.

I've hinted to Daryl if he needed a core to do his he was welcome and he is but if he elects not to and you find a vendor here in the "southern provinces" I'd drop mine directly to them for you to avoid shipping multiple times. I've only one '91MY but I believe I actually have a pair of '90MY. It looks to me it's not an issue to modify the '90MY for the later MY usage.

I used DSV also very happy with the craftsmanship and quality of the leather used. I sent them a donor wheel so there was no down time in driving my car. Also had them cover my console cover and shift boot as well, both came out perfect!

My only complaint with DSV was I sent my 91 wheel in the box that my 86 NOS wheel came in and they kept the box and when they sent back my 91 wheel I didnt get the NOS box back.I was so happy with the quality on my 91 wheel I got past this little complaint. The quality coming out of DSV is comparable to anything from Europe as far as Im concerned.Check this out,I wanted to be able to get the car out of the garage in an emergency.http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a136/FLYTYM/DSC00399.jpg

Thanks for the offer WV. I'll keep that in mind.
Jeff: it's recovering the steering wheel, not a wheel cover. The entire original leather is removed and replaced by the Redline one.
I'd like to see your dsv one too.
