My parts are in the Mail. Heres the preview of coming attractions. Who said a C4 interior cant be as sexy as a C7 interior? I paid extra to have the Orange Lettering redone and triple clear coated over the carbon fiber.

Now that's awesome.

Not that I can afford this anyway, but not having the lettering on there was a negative to me. I might have to save up my pennies now ...

Having CF with the lettering is

GC,

Is this using your own console parts or new?

All new with exception of radio surround

I provided ALL the parts from my private stock.

All dash vents
The defroster vent
Radio surround mine was modified to fit my radio so a NEW one would be a NOGO
Console Shifter bezel
Headlights switch
Drivers door bezel long piece

I may get the steering wheel re wrapped in leather and do the half cf on it as well I.really wanted to update the interior a little. Well now a lot. I took a gamble going first.

I believe I saw you buy a steering wheel the other day for a '90MY. I thought nothing of it but if this is intended for your project it's maybe a "no go" with the '91MY air bag. The coil is different and the slot for the coil in the wheel is different, I'm quite sure. If you had an air-bag deployment with a '90 you needed to use a '91 air-bag, steering wheel and coil kit. Check it closely before you send it!! I have a quite nice wheel if it's a no go! I might be able to do a snapshot of both, I believe I still have a '90 also. Don't know I'd need to look.

GC - '91MY on the left/top and '90MY on the right/bottom. It appears that the '90MY could be modified to do a '91MY and that the '91MY could do a '90MY. Another one of those "backward" only compatible pieces.

No they applied the CF over the top of my OEM parts. They normally have everything for the C4 except the Radio Surround and the MT Console shift plate. The rest is an exchange however I specifically asked them do do ALL my parts.

It was a 2 month turn around. The POC at APSIS is Jesey. He is hard to understand however if you tell him you want somthing simular to what Daryll had done he would know what you want.

Its best to get everything done at once as attention is paid to how the weave is ran when its overlayed.

If you have further questions pm me and we can chat. This was a challange for them as they dont get very much C4 business as its expensive, however they had never done a C4 ZR-1 before so for them they were looking forward to the different challenge. In short their web site spoke volumes. They know what they are doing. The tesimontals swung me too.

Installing the Carbon fiber pieces
Getting my front air diffuser license plate painted and my rear spoiler touched up

I will be gone half of Feb-Mar for work in LA so im in a hurry lol before the event horizon in AZ occurs and its 100 degrees again. I also must hang out with Phil at he pavilians in Scotsdale representing the C4 ZR-1. GC

You could use it for your project by just modifying it. It doesn't look like that great an issue. What condition does a wheel need to be in for them to do their treatment for you? My '91MY might make a good candidate. Where are they? If you knew what you wanted, the wheel could go from me to them to inspect.

I e-mailed APSIS USA INC (http://www.apsisusa.com/) and told them I want an estimate on what Daryll has defined with a link to this thread (your first post).

Can you list by the numbers the parts you sent APSIS?

Thanks for the explanation on providing your parts as base for CF application (It appears Apsis affixes real carbon fiber to existing OEM parts) :handshak:

I am assuming showing them this thread Link can only help our cause but I will wait for your further evaluations once you have the CF parts in hand

CF being Carbon Fiber...and not C*******F**** :D

Jesey must be Norwegian as I am and equally hard to understand......by some :sign10:

Cliff look at post 16 I listed what I sent. I agree I want to see this in my hand and installed and provide my impressions to the community. I only will recommend it if I was impressed. So far I am. However I reserve final judgement until I see the final and installed product.

How many people are serious about getting this done? My thought is if we get enough owners to go in on this work we might be able to get a group buy. If the price was fair enough I might get both 91 done.

Good idea ........maybe you can get a track on how many and at what price and for what trim items by responses to your suggestion in this thread?
I suggested that in Post #10
Now if GC were to talk APSIS USA INC into cheaper by the dozen :sign10:

I say let GC take the lead AFTER he has given us a  or :thumbsdo:
Yes...if  count me in (91' and potential 90' as well depending on pricing)

I am not sure about the Drivers door bezel long piece.
Is there similar on Passenger side?

I am thinking this would be the Cats Meow with Red Interior.

You should have determined that GC would've done "RIGHT" before your foolish move that you mentioned in Post#27. GC mentioned all along I believe "GOOD INTENT" But you couldn't leave well enough alone! That seems to be "often" the case! Daryl attempted to "share" maybe just a little prematurely but it seems that "MOST" caught on and just displayed interest!

Just sayin'

One needs to consider that to be "profitable" they need to concentrate on volume. I don't believe I'd expect considerable pricing reductions for this type of an order regardless the number of participants. Every piece of trim that they need to prep and process is likely 17+ years old, most much older. I would think there would be "bumps in the road" processing plastics with this age on them. This is likely something that isn't going to generate near as much interest once cost is revealed.

GC - I don't believe I've mentioned that it looks good and it certainly appears you should be "very" happy! That's GOOD! Remember that came from Dave!

Their work sure looks very precise from your photos. Too bad that is so labor intensive. JMHO, I doubt that doing a group buy would get much of a price break. To be fair to the company, hand labor is expensive no matter how large or small the quantity.....just saying..:o Kind of like the difference between a chopper gun hull and a hand laid/vacuum bagged hull....time is money.:)

Tom

What is Big D? Another Forum Acronym I have no clue :p
What ever it means I guess it was important !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to you.

Daryll was the first with Carbon Fiber including the unique lettering and coating for the ZR1 as he stated (as far as I know). Now the first and maybe only prolly takes three times as long and the learning curve is very steep for something like this with so much learned after even a dozen to make a BIG difference I would say in thought and labor

I happened to really really like what Daryll did in his experiment which as I told Daryll in a PM sometimes works and somtimes does not work so well.....Daryll took the chance for the rest of us

Not only that.....if you set up for one at a time or a dozen at a time....BIG difference in process even if the learning is no factor.

As for me......I will continue to take photos with my IPhone 4s and rebuild engines including the LT5 and L98 but post less simply because posting here is not fun anymore with the verbal critics (on this Forum only) ....there....I said it again :D

Thanks Tom Me as well, I love the pics but but fit and finish and how it looks when its installed will be key so I can share my experience to the community. Those that know me Im about the club if I can move the ZR-1 in a positive direction I will. I would not have this car if it was not for the mutal owners that share the same addiction that I have. So far this project looks great.

As to the group buy you never know it might be cheaper slightly lets say if 5 or more of the same is all being done at the same time. One ofs are always more expensive and always like a box of chocolates. LOL
I had been toying with this for years. I saw my pops CTSV and said oh hell yeah. I did not want fake carbon fiber so I wanted to go all in.

Thanks again Tom for being who you are. That goes for the rest of you. :handshak:All my brothers. D

Daryl,

Simply put - fantastic!
I have always felt plastic and finish quality of center console, radio bezel, etc... left a lot to be desired. And this shortcoming gets amplified as car interior in general and even Corvette interior gets better with each succeeding generations.
I can only imagine how labor intensive this lamination process must be and I am sure it's reflected in cost. My hats off to you for taking this expensive, unknown plunge (at the time of commitment)!
If you don't mind, can you send me a message indicating what the cost was so I can start another piggy bank (Wilwood piggy bank, head porting piggy bank, door panel piggy bank, etc...).

My only concern is that after a conversion like this could our Zs taking on Lambo/Ferrari complex? - finickey and uncooperative?:D

Thank you.

I'm not into the look of carbon fiber interior but it is an amazing material, one of the composites in the dreamliner 787 airplane they are trying to figure out now why the lithium ion batteries have fried in a few.

This company, which I'm sure many are familiar with, http://www.apsisusa.com/

Has just done the interior trim in a C4 in carbon fiber. I don't know the cost but it is probably $$$$$$. It looks very precise and well done as a technology to me. Since it's interior and cosmetic I didn't put it in the tech section. I have no relationship with the company, was looking at whether Carbon Fiber burned and if so how with respect to the dreamliner airplane. Some plastic compounds burn with the most noxious smoke you've ever been around and is hazardous to your health. The carbon fibre takes really high temps to finish oxidizing though the resin matrix it's in will readily burn off.

Saw this on the other zr1 forum where this guy must be a vendor.

Just interesting and I was impressed with how precise it looked tho I'm fine with mine as is.

Here we go again....this means raising the prices for non club members I would guess. Also a group buy means much longer time to produce items especially for non club members.

I did not realize your GC design did not include cup holders and some modification on radio surround :dontknow:

Just figured that out........I think. So a group buy may in fact include all sorts of options for each individual

Actually I have no idea Cliff thats for Robert to sort out. When I state club I make zero distinction between paying and non paying members. Prob because I have always been a paying member.

The No cup design was somebody elses idea not mine I think that is a later C4 style as well. My radio surround is modded to fit my after maket radio thats all.

Yes each indivdual would have their own requirements so Im guessing a base package. Like 7 Pieces if you want more pay more if you want lettering etc. Again Robert will need to work that out with the vendor.

Came home late from work last night the box was waiting for me. Opened it up to take a look at a couple of pieces. WOW what a deep multi layered look. Beautiful especially in different angles. Well packed as well layered in styrofoam

My 20 and 25 Year old sons. Members of the "MEH generation" were totally impressed as well. Both Drive a Camaro and Mustang so they are my gauge on the whats cool factor.

Hey Dom started the min air adjustment. Need to figure out the tech 1 so I can watch it while im turning the screw. I backed off the nut not a lot of room in there.

I installed ALL the vents the Headlight Switch (That was a PITA) and the driver door bezel, On to the console and the radio surround next but have to pull the seats to replace the console sides first. Then scavenge the fastners on the other side of the old console shift plate. Grrr

A word of warning on the headlight switch. After pulling the hush panel, the skeleton, dropping the steering wheel, removing the IP surround THEN can you see the bolts to remove the switch. So while I was there I cleaned everything and added my LED footwell light lol

The quality is amazing and everything was packed well. GC

No there isn't much room and the problem is making sure the bolt doesn't move when tightened the locking nut. One reason I suggested pulling air horn off and adjusting Min Air cold by just checking gap of primary throttle blade( the small one). Get it to where a piece of paper or a .002" feeler gauge drags slightly through the gap of TB and venturi wall You can also use the EASE scan tool connected w motor running and scroll down to IAC steps. You can even show it as a gauge. Up to nine parameters can be displayed in a gauge format. The parameters will be the first nine parameters that are indicated YELLOW, not red or green.
It shouldn't take much to have the IAC counts drop. If you are down to about 10-15, should be fine.
Look forward to pics of interior.

So I was at the gas station this morning and I noticed the lighting was pretty good.

I still have the Console and Shifter plate to do as well as the radio surround which are flawless. Jersey did an outstanding job. Here are a few pics of last nights work. First let me talk about the product, In short its outstanding. Now without sounding like im on ludes let me explain that pics will never show you the depth of look. The orange lettering viewed from an angle actually floats above the Carbon Fiber. End result I am happy and I am adding three more pieces. This is a case of you get what you pay for and I encourage you to do the same. Remember this is a 2 month process. Everything was packed exceedingly well and with care. Every piece was Foam wrapped, Then Vinyl wrapped then bubble wrapped and then Foamy chip enclosed. Even the box was foamed planked on all the corners and extremely oversized.

These were snapped quick from my cell phone. They are uncut, unresized taken in real time lol

So far the biggest and flatest piece I have installed is the defroster vent. You can see it poking out under my dash mat. Other folks say why bother? I say why not lol

GC

I know for a fact Daryll didn't get a big discount and took one for the "team" on this one!

Robert is talking to Jersey Wu and also another potential vendor for the best deal / quality.

Daryll... That looks awesome!

That looks great. When your all done you should take a pic from the rear, w/ the hatch open, of the interior. Probably won't see the fine detail, but should give a good sense of how the whole package looks installed.

Last pieces in the works at APSIS to get done I should have them back in 45-60 days

Final Pieces.....

Both door Bezels and the backing plates. The Right side Power window switch and the Shift Knob with Shift pattern insert. All will receive the orange lettering treatment. Then finshed !!!!

I have an AVIC D2 and have been looking at the IB1 interface. Read different opinions on how it works. Interested in hearing how it works for you. The App Store has a Tune In app that aggregates radio sites and streams them so you can listen to your favorite radio station over 3-4G. Less expensive Sirius. I'd like to be able to play through my audio if I can. Right now I use my ear buds which works fine actually.

Dom its works fine. It is slow and that where most opinions come from. However for me it works great.
