Believe it or not, I've already got word of the first Drag Racing/Test & Tune Session of 2013...see below for complete details (all vettes are invited - let's show up the stangs!) :D
Drag Racing/Test & Tune Session - Sat. 4/27/13
Who: NVCC, CCA, NCOA, NVMC, and special invites
Where: Mason Dixon Dragway, Boonsboro, MD
Time: 8 AM -12 Noon (4hr Private Track Rental, UNLIMITED RUNS!)
Driver price: PayPal $52.00 per driver to Enforcir@gmail.com OR mail $50.00 per driver (check made out to Cyril Coburn) to: NVMC, PO Box 104, Amissville, VA 20106. Either of these pre-payment options must be done NLT a week ahead of the event. Pre-payment is preferable as we must have 30 pre-paid drivers 2 weeks ahead of the event or the event risks cancellation. Or you may pay $75.00 cash per driver @ the gate the day of the event.
Spectator price: $10.00 (Driver gets 1 crew member in FREE)
Special (Driver) Requirements:
*Mufflers mandatory
*1/4 sleeved shirt and pants, NO SHORTS or OPEN TOED SHOES
*Seat belts in working order
*Proper safety equipment per your vehicles performance level i.e. (helmets for cars faster than 13.99, roll bar for cars faster than 11.49, etc.)
*10 MPH speed limit in the pit area!!!
*NO air conditioning on in staging lanes, ALL windows up during burnout and run
At the gate you will:
*Pay your fee (if you did not pre-register)
*Get a wrist band (goes on left wrist)
*Sign competition waiver
*Get a tech inspection card to fill out and bring back to the staff
In the event of rain, call Ceece Coburn (703) 346-8151 if you have any questions regarding the event being on time.
Directions to Mason Dixon Dragway are as follows:
From Washington DC/NoVa: Take Route 270 N toward Frederick, MD. Take Rt. 70 W toward Hagerstown. Follow Rt. 70 until you reach Rt. 66 (Exit 35). Once at the bottom of the ramp turn LEFT onto Rt. 66 South, go about 1/2 miles until you reach Rt. 40 (you will see a Sheetz convenience store at the intersection), turn LEFT (east) on Rt. 40 and go just another 1/2 mile, the Dragstrip entrance will be on your right.

COOL! A weekend that I am available. I will be there.
Thank you to the NVCC, CCA, NCOA, NVMC for inviting us to participate.
I encourage erveyone to come out and enjoy the day, the cars and the people.
Even if you don't want to race, it is a beautiful area of Maryland and we sometimes stop for lunch at Texas Road House. Come out and join us.
If you want to take some time on the way back, I have a set up the Catoctin Mountain Cruise. We will start from Texas Road House in Hagerstown, head toward Smithsburg (a special place in the hearts of WAZOO) then cross through Catoctin Mountain Park to Thurmont, MD. From there it is a 20 minute drive down RT 15 to I-70 and I-270 in Frederick. Catoctin Mountain is the location of Camp David, but we won't see it from our route.
If you have never been on a drag strip before and want to give it a try, this is the perfect place. The track is friendly and the people are very nice. Drag racing can be just as simple as pullling away from a stop light. It is not any harder than that. You don't have to be an expert to enjoy your ZR-1. Contact me if you would like more information about drag racing for fun.

Looks like the end of my rear tires, I will be there. Will have to budget for new rubber on the rear after these get toasted. Will beat the 13.06 time from last year!

For any drag racing 'newbies' who would like to read up on the subject beforehand, I've attached a 'Drag Racing 101' doc that I wrote up some time ago...I instructed that segment of one of my club's events (it's got a lot of really basic information).
This event would be a great one for newcomers to get the proverbial feet wet...no pressure, very laid back...

Very helpful and thanks. Did my first event with the Stangs last year and had a blast. With this write up, will do better!

Was going to make a separate posting about the day-of fee increase, but got sidetracked...my apologies... :o
Apparently they've gotten burned by people saying they would come and then backing out, and then they have to come up with the rest of the track rental fee out of club funds. So, they raised the gate fee to encourage pre-payments...and to ensure that they have enough people ahead of time to pay for the track rental.
I would like to be there but I just had to cut a BIG check for an aftermarket ECM/wiring harness/MAP/tuning/etc...for the '89 track vette. In other words, I is po. :frown:
I know lots of WAZOO folks will be there flying the Corvette colors. :dancing Kick some Mustang a$$, OK? And post back here when you do...

I will be there as well, not sure if I will race or be an observer. Need a new brake reservoir as mine has some cracks in it. It is on order now.

I just found out that I have been released from my post-op restrictions on driving, so if the weather is good, I plan on coming out to Mason-Dixon to watch the drag racing.
I won't be able to make any 1/4 mile runs, but I hope to be there to cheer on the WAZOO racers.
See You There,
Jim
