Hi All:

For those that participated in the NCM Hall of Fame nominations this year, note that the NCM Board deferred the HOF decision from the November 2012 meeting to the January 2013 meeting. We should know more in February or early March.

Robert:

I got my packet from the NCM the other day. The enthusiast category is pretty full. Our January Board meeting will be held in Detroit, right before the Auto Show and we will discuss the candidates and vote.

From what I can tell, it appears you helped to put together a very nice application for Mark and the endorsement letters/signatures are quite compelling. I will try to fill you guys in, as much as I can, after the meeting.

Maybe I will see some of you at the Unveiling of the C7?

Thanks for the update, Joe. I will definately be at the unveiling and hope to connect then.

Cheers,

It has not been announced yet, but the 2013 candidates for the NCM Hall of Fame will be Wil Cooksey representing General Motors, Johnny O'Connell representing Corvette Racing and Werner Meier representing the Enthusiast category.

Mark Haibeck faired well, and there was a lot of positive discussion surrounding his application. He will be eligible for 2014 and 2015.

Saying Marc is in the same category as those "hero's" says a lot! We know what he has done for the community and continues to do so

Just out of curiosity, what's Werner Meier's claim to fame? I'm sure he deserves the honor, but was just wondering...

Werner was an engineer for GM, predominantly in the Cadillac Division and retired out of the Milford Proving Grounds. He has been involved with Corvettes as an enthusiast since the late sixties and began his Corvette restoration business in the late seventies. He was instrumental in some of the original designs for desplays at the musuem and over the years has donated many cars/other memoralbilia to the museum for display. Also very active with NCRS. He has been responsible for many of the specialty Corvette restorations belonging to GM and his work has been documented in many Corvette publications.

Thank you for the early notification, Joe - much appreciated!

Well said, David. I was told that it is rare that a nomination is successful the first year it's submitted. We'll see what we have to do to keep Marc's nomination alive in 14.

I have just returned from the Board of Directors meeting and for 2014 it will be Jonh Hienricy for GM/Chevrolet, Jerry Burton for Enthusiast, and Dave MacDonald for Racing.

Again, there was a lot of positive conversation about Marc Haibeck, but Jerry Burton won out in the enthusiast category this year.

On another note, there was conversation about the NCM being more supportive of the C4/ZR-1 Gathering and making it bigger/better.

Congratz to all the winners; Corvette ICONs in their own right!

Of particular interest is the Enthusiasts category, and honestly, I never heard of Jerry Burton, or "CE". And, so, I went searching and came to appreciate Jerry's past contributions too.

(Have a look at this intro to Jerry Burton's contributions to Corvette/GM) (http://www.lowecampbellewald.com/agency/people-culture/Jerry-Burton.html)

With reference to "CE" in the above link, I found this link, (http://adage.com/article/special-report-chevy-100/campbell-ewald-execs-share-90-years-chevrolet-memories/230689/) which I believe is the CE referenced in the Jerry Burton bio

With all due respect to Jerry's contributions, Jerry is another long time insider - not implying that in any way as diminishing Jerry's accomplishments or deserved recognition. But, I guess I find the final decision a little bit trite. I was hoping that the committee would break out of the mold and recognize someone equally worthy, equally enthusiastic, and (more importantly) supportive of perpetuating the enjoyment of the Corvette by the buying public; someone that didn't walk the halls of GM on a regular basis or have lunch with "heads of state" (so to speak).

Well, again, congratulations to Jerry for recognition as a long term enthusiast; well deserved. Now...onto the next inductee... It is someone else's turn - and here's hoping it will be "one of our own" next time around!

Appreciate you letting us know before the announcement as always, Joe. I know Marc's nomination got a fair hearing with you there. We have one more year. If you have any advice on how we can enhance Marc's package, please let me know and we'll work on in throughout 2014.

Thanks again,

Bob

Bob:

I will contact you about the application. It is a very good write up for Marc, and he has a lot of support. As stated before, a lot of people don't get in the first time around. Dave MacDonald's first application came in 2003. I'm not suggesting it always takes ten plus years to get accepted, I'm just saying be patient and know that Marc has support.
