I would be interested to know how brave you all are ;-), and what a realistic "non perfect conditions" top speed for the car is.Brett

159... Yeah Frank I know I gotta get a pair myself. :P It wasn't the speed, but how fast it got there that surprised me. I managed 145.8 in 4th on the Dyno at 6930 rpm's. They do alright for an old car.

Just got my '90 last Friday, 14 may. :-D :-D
On Sunday, I hit the Autobahn (I live in Germany) and did 150mph before I ran up on some traffic and had to slow down.

So far I had her upto 135MPH, I only slowed beacuse the road was starting to curve. I just have to say, the ZR1 is awsome at that speed and begs to be driven fast. :-D

Also:
Dewey's 93 ZR-1 = 170
Dewey's ZO7 = 178
Bob's 95 ZR-1 = 181

I drove all those cars at the Texas Flying Mile a couple of months ago. Old #364 would have done a little over 170 on engine in flying mile based on my experience with the above mentioned cars.

I only got to drive mine for a month and a half and i believe the top speed was 151mph. #2910 sat for four years so I still need some time before really opening her up.

make sure you have some good fresh tires before going balls out.

the factory low tire pressure sensor system has a nasty habbit of unassing at speed too which can be very disconcerting. the plastic ears bust off and they rattle around and shake your gizzard out. mine are gone and I don't miss em a bit.

at 180, bad things can happen very fast. make sure you do any top end bombs in a safe venue. we want you around to enjoy lots of miles.

lba 180, but it can be cut short there as well. as for me, 154 in the LSV, it was plenty considering how fast I got there.

once I saw 70 backwards in the 90 DRM, that seemed pretty quick too!!! :!:

I have gone 162mph, However a couple of month ago, I was running at 120mph, letting off, down around between 110mph, the front tire blew out... coasted to a stop with only bending the rim...Tire was new only around 2000 miles on it. Needless to say, I am no gun shy of going that fast again... I was very lucky not to have done more damage...

I took the tire in to find out why it blew, no holes,, I was told the tire was under inflated... I was running at 30psi, I was told I should of been running at 40psi..Still hard to believe 10psi would of made much of a differance.. Oh well, live and learn...an expensive lesson on my part.

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

You are very lucky to have survived a tire failure going at those speeds. That said, I would question the explanation you were given as to why the tire failed.

55?

Heck, the speed limit here in Florida is 70 on the highway, and some people have been known to go a little over that as well. ;)

I'm almost embarassed to say that I've only had it to 120mph. Scared the crap out of me. I couldn't believe how fast it got there. These cars are fully insane!! I'm sure someday there will be a nice long stretch of open road to test it out on, but until then. . . .

there are always Mustangs to play with

I've only had mine to 90 & I was very surprised how quickly it got there. I haven't driven a vette in 20 yrs so I'm back to beginner status and my last vette was a 72. There is a good deal of difference between my new Z and my old LT-1. I have to learn all over again. I'm still having fun, albit at a slower rate of speed! :-D Tom

"Only" 173 on the first day I owned it over ten years ago. Since then, 130-140 almost every weekend....yeeeeehaaah! :jawdrop:

Seriously, the car is very stable at high speed. It just hunkers down and flies.

Sometime back when I actually owned a Z, I did have it up to 177mph on a German Autobahn, according to the speedo and this for only a very brief period of time. High speed handling in stock form is not the ZR1's strong point, in my opinon...

Had her up to 175 mph - takes a while to get there even with a 415 - I'm not one to hammer it WOT for more than a mile - the Alcons work great though!
