View Full Version : Beware of Scum Lurking on Our Site

We tend to be savvy when purchasing parts for our cars, but just be aware that I have evidence of bums lurking on the Registry looking to prey on people desperate to acquire hard-to-find parts. Watch out in particular for names like "Krisofer Flamer" of Ontario, California and "Michael Brown" of Munci, Indiana.

Keep up the practices of demanding photos and having a Brother in the area check things out before initiating any transactions.

Maybe some one should let the poor guy know his name is being used for scams.

In a post under Parts For Sale/Parts Wanted section, a fellow member pointed out that there is an Brown's Auto Parts Store in Munci, Indiana that should be made aware that they are mentioned here as they were.

I am posting the response I wrote in that section to ensure that those reading only this section are aware of the exchange - bottom line, I have no reason to beleive that Brown's Auto Parts Store is the person I refer to as "Michael Brown" in my original post or that Brown's Auto Parts is in any way illegitimate.

Here is my post from the other section...

I certainly apologize if "this Michale Brown" (Brown's Auto Parts) is implicated by my message. I expect Brown's Auto Sales is quite legitimate and should not be tarnished by this post.

What I can share is that the text of the e-mail I received from the Michael Brown I was referring to was extremely similar to that I got from Kristofer Flamer, who has "deposited the cash and not delivered". Furthermore, the Brown I referred to has failed to respond to e-mail seeking pictures and condition of the wheel; hence, my suspicion of the latter as well.

I have no reason to beleive that Brown's Auto Sales is one and the same individual or is in any way illegitimate.

Thank you for raising this importnat point!!!

The similar thread in the For Sale section has been closed so that there is only one discussion going on.

We have a well known member that frequents this site selling bogus parts on Ebay under an assumed name, sold me a used part listed as NOS.When I called the guy out on it most came to his defense and made me out to be the bad guy. After that I started looking at this site in a different light, lost a little respect on this side.Never once has the guy ever posted in my thread to defend himself nor has he ever asked for the used part back. Not to hijack your thread but its happening a little closer than you think.;)

Correct.

I wouldn't suggest posting your e-mail on an "open forum" looking to purchase "anything" - it's an "invitation" to what it seems has happened to you. I'd rely on only a response or a "direct referral" from a forum member before I made a "purchase".

Did you receive snap-shots of the wheel you were expecting to purchase?

It's a long story which includes what "appeared" to be repeated attempts to post photos that "wouldn't upload". I appreciate the advice, and normally I take all of these precautions. The point I wanted to make is - don't let your guard down just because you're posting on the Registry, and don't let your pursuit of a hard-to-find part make you any less vigilant than if you're looking for something easier to find.
