Does anyone know how many DRM600s were built?

I recently purchased the DRM600 featured in the 1995 Road & Track "Fastest Cars in America", which was also in the 1996 Road & Track video below.*
*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ilz6ul5q4EE
*
then it is continued at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbK2z6QdV-M

Interesting history - despite the MPH reached on the track by driver Phil Hill, Doug Rippie and the original owner hit 196 to, and 198 from, the event on the West Texas highway. Approximately four years after the DRM600 build, the 385 was rebuilt by LPE and increased output toward 625hp. I've only seen reference to one other here on the forum.

Ha! I've been in lurker mode for a long time.... Since the Listserver days!

Was googling DRM600s and there's not much out there. I did find reference to the shoot out from Randy@DRM... This was the only car that was actually driven to the event in West Texas (reached 196 mph), and was a customer's car, "Not a house car built for the shoot out."

Hey Mark call Randy at DRM and see what they can tell you. You will be surprised what Doug can remember.

I would bet to say Doug knows the exact numbers and the original owners.

If Doug could tell me the cam specs on a car he built in 95 I'm betting he'll remember. Check under the car on the rear sway bar if DRM had multiple cars in the shop at once they would wright the owners name on the rear bar so it was easier to keep up with.

Ricky,

It makes 625hp from the LPE 385 with Corey Henderson's chip. With the DRM600 package, it has the 1G ExtraGrip suspension w/coil overs, Wilwood 6 piston fronts, 4 piston rears, 4:09 gears, Watson Headers, B&Bs w/X-pipe, Centerforce Clutch, Ron Davis Radiator w/160 degree Thermostat, Fidanza flywheel, Forced Air, line loc, integrated electronic fire suppression system, DRM roll bar w/Simpson 5-pt harnesses, Kurt White short shifter, Fikse FM5s, and NX Express System 100 shot installed. Also, it has the Toledo Pro hood and euro tails.

....as I said, honored to own it.... I look forward to bringing it to BG and Carlisle....

Okay I am a little lost now. Is this a LPE385, DRM600 or a DRM600/510? The DRM600 refers to a 402 cu in stroker that was built by DRM not Lingenfelter. I did read where it stated that the engine was rebuilt by LPE and is a 385 now? The DRM600/510 was rated at 510 hp to 530 hp. So if this was a DRM600/510 LPE got an additional 100 HP from the 385 upgrade. Either way you own a very nice car. Cant wait to see her.

DRM 600 Conversion
1993-95 ZR-1 Corvette
550-600 horsepower/500+ ft-lbs.
402 cubic inches
Oversized cylinder liners
Forged stroker crankshaft
JE pistons and Oliver rods
DRM intake camshafts
Ported cylinder heads
Ported plenum and
injector housings
K&N air filter
Modified air filter lid
63mm throttle body
Custom computer calibration

Robert,

This DRM600 was a 385ci, as referenced in the R&T video. The second owner decided to increase power from 550 to over 600 through LPE. The current DRM600 packages refer to the specs you reference. I don't believe LPE currently offers the 385 either.

Got the skinny on this car. It is a DRM 600/385 cu in. Might be the only one that was ever build.
If she was mine I would take off the LPE tagged Siamese plenum and install a DRM600 tagged Siamese plenum with the logo 1 of 1 just downstream of the TB.
great find. Cant wait to see her in Bowling Green.
I got a good idea, Lets take out that 100 shot off and install a 300 hp progressive Nitrous system. I sure would love to see one of our cars turn a 8.99
That might be wishful thinking but it sure would be nice to see.

I found a bit more about the Rippie 385s at: http://corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/c4/zr1/blackwidow.html

It is a copy of "Meet Doug" formerly posted on the Rippie website. Appears the early DRM600s were 385s. In addition, Doug Rippie mentions the production of a 600hp 385 that was tested in Aug 1996 in the desert.

After a bit more searching, I found a 93 ZR-1 for sale with a 600hp 385, as well as the original 405hp engine:

I am currently looking at a house in Crowne Point that has a four car existing connected garage. When I put a bid offer in on the house one of the stipulations is the existing owner adds an additional 4 car garage before I take ownership. That way when I take ownership no one can complain about me adding an additional garage.

You list that hood as a Toledo Pro hood. But from that angle it looks like the hood on the C4 ZR-1 "active suspension" car recently auctioned. Note where the rear of the hood meets the windshield it looks relatively stock, but going forward it rises over the plenum.
I always thought that was the design that should have been used on all ZR-1's, to clear the plenum, (mine rubs), and yet it doesn't obscure the view of the road like every Toledo Pro hood that i've seen.
I dunno, maybe it's just the angle of the pic, but it's pretty cool.

Hey Robert,
We moved some of the P cars around and have room for 4 now in the off site storage and if I can ever get the lift in the home shop I'll have room for one more. Just pick that Z up and ship it down or have one of the others shipped. I'll take good care of them <swear>. BTW you NEED that Z ;)

Yeah, they did. And they both look too big, (IMHO), but the one on this car is so cool because it has the higher hump for the LT5 to fit a little easier, but the rear lip of the hood seems low in the stock manner, so as not to obscure your view.
One more subtle change that if used on all the ZR-1's would have given it more of a "special" appearance. Like the "new" ZR1 has.

So we now have tracking on 3 DRM600s.

I have the DRM600 that was in the June 95 R&T Fastest Cars in America article, and the 1996 video, same title.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-general-discussion/2365322-r-t-rippie-zr1-and-lingenfelter-fb-compared.html.

This is the one that Doug and the original owner took up to 196 on the highway to the event and 198 on the way from the event. They were very disappointed that the car was short shifted by Phil Hill at the Fastest Cars in America Shootout, and as a result, the car only posted 186.8 on the Ft. Stockton track.

That said, we'd love to see some photos of your cars!

That sure does look like Bob Halls car. Accept Bobs LPE 385 motor was all black with red & silver letters. I know he sold it last year but had no idea who he sold it to. Not even Corey knew. Bob told me it makes 530rwhp. I had talked to Bob about buying the car but he said there were two other people that had first dibs on it. It was a surprise when I found out he had sold it.

Tim,

Mine is Black/Black 95 that was at Carlisle - now with the gloss black LPE 385 vs. the former crinkle coat Black Widow paint. While the engine has been redone by LPE, the Z retains all the other DRM 600 accessories: roll cage, halon fire suppression system, 1G Extra-Grip suspension, billet spindles, Willwood calipers w/vented rotors, coilovers and DRM valved coilover Bilsteins w/reprogramed FX3. In the June 95 R&T article, Rippie called the DRM 600 an "Offspring of our SCCA World Challenge Corvettes."

Lee....It's at Pete's. It's a 93 Red on Black. It has the Rippie X-Tragrip Suspension with FX-3 coil-overs, Stage III intake & exhaust cams, 4.09 gears, supposive 11.75 compression, Fiske FM-5's....pretty nice car. He is doing some more aggressive porting on heads & Top End & changing out the Exhaust Cams for a little less duration for street drivability. We may do some exhaust mods, but it has the Borla 2.75" systems now. I really don't know how to do photos, I will try to have a co-worker upload photos to a album.

Lee, I forgot to say, this was the Practice engine at Rippie's grassroots attempt at LeMans. I believe Jim VanDorn has the the other motor. The fellow I bought it off of was a contributor to the LeMans effort. I have a old photo of the car with his company's name painted on the LeMans car.....kinda neat!
