I'm changing out all the injectors in my '90. I ordered new ones from Jon at FIC. The new injectors came in two boxes of 8 marked primary and secondary. However, the injectors are all the same. Jon inidcated that this isn't a problem. I'd feel better if I can get some confirmation from you guys.

In the first image you can see the old and new. The old primaries are "tapered" while the old secondaries are "stepped." Both the new primary and secondary are stepped. The new injectors have the same numbers -- just the primary doesn't have the lower o-ring.

BTW, are the old injectors stock? Part numbers on the old injectors are "1240 5235357" (primary) and "2050 5235366" (secondary) [those don't seem like GM part numbers]

1) OK to use the new injectors - will everything fit OK?

In the second image you can see the orange silicon electrical connector gaskets for the fuel injectors. I had one missing on the PS and, of course, I lost one down in the valley on the DS. I can't find these anywhere.

The folks at FIC said to make a gasket from blue RTV by greasing the connector and flowing some in. After it dries, pull it out - clean - and use it. My Chevy dealer guy said to load it up with dielectric grease.

2) Which route would go - RTV or grease?

Thanks,

Gary

Accels are all the same also. The only difference is where the O ring goes.

For the orange replacement I used an o-ring the fit around the connector. It has been working for 3 or 4 years without issue

wow, just seems bizarre that they cram the same ones on you
for both pri and sec.
As for orange missing gasket piece. Just use dielectric grease and
the next time you're in the V just find it and reinstall :):o

The square bosch injector plug seal is easy- just get one off of any 80's or early 90's fuel injector--easily found in a junkyard near you.

I lost a couple myself- I found a couple off of an L98 harness.

Here is a little tech article from my web site for replacement of the lower primary seal for the injector.

As for them all being the same, that's the way the Accels (from Summit) are as well. You just remove the O ring from the tip of the injectors intended for the primary side.

Marc said that some will grind off that little lip on the tip of the injector intended to be the primary inj. - the lip that holds the gasket in place. But, he doesn't, I didn't either, and it works just ducky with them on.

The stock injectors have a plastic alignment "key" that is off-set on (I believe) the secondary injector to prevent installing the primary connector on the secondary injector. On the Accels from Summit you have to grind that plastic key off on the secondary injectors. Apparently, the ones from FIC don't have the keys, or do they?? Just curious.

As for grease vs. RTV, JMO, the grease is going to get hot and the question is will it run out and get into mischief? the RTV route, OR picking one up in a scrap yard, would be my choice.

I think you'll like the difference in the way she runs after!!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm "down in the valley" now :) replacing the coils.

I'll let you know how everything works out.

Anybody know if the injectors I pulled out are stock or not?

Everything is back to together and the Z actually runs. :-D

I'll need to post some details of the injector install as there are some issues that I haven't seen documented for noobs like me ...

Now, I need to rip out that darn aftermarket alarm system ...

Thanks, Jeff. Cylinders 3 and 6 were dead and the stock primary injectors tested at less than 2 Ohms ... I guess they were bad ;)

Um, Yeah I would say 2 ohms is bad.. LOL

So where in WI are you?

So where in WI are you?

Fredonia, which is about 35 minutes North of Milwaukee on I-43 (I on the way to Road America ;))

"Someday," I'll get down to IL to meet the FBI gang properly, although Pete changed my clutch and I met a few at Bloomington Gold this year ...
