Lets document our preference for No More Political Posts
right here for the board and/or whomever can see the totals.
This thread should be made sticky for new members to see.
Also the voters on this post well be able to see each others votes.

Scott that's ridiculous. If you can't have a political conversation in the "OFF TOPIC" section without being able handle other peoples opinions that don't agree with yours then maybe you need to go pour yourself a scotch on the rocks an chill out. Don't try to censor us because you can't handle a difference of opinion. I don't agree with your political views at all. Not even 1% but I would never try to abolish political conversations from the "OFF TOPIC" section over it. I hope the mods ignore your poll and what your trying to do.

One question, any conversation on any topic is "political" to someone - who decides?

In don't understand your comment. What exactly is "ridiculous"?
I'm just proposing a poll to find out stuff. That is ridiculous?
the original idea was not mine. I did not originate the proposal. I believe it was David (ZZZZZR1). Go see the tread "http://zr1.net/forum/images/misc/navbits_finallink_ltr.gif (http://zr1.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18432) Seriously guys, wtf..."
and blame all those guys for liking the idea too. There was a kind of de facto poll already going on the thread. I just implemented the poll feature to count them.
If political stuff is allowed to continue I'd be ok with it. It's not my preference but I'd go with the majority. The biggest issue that I have stated as have others is that the "New Posts" shows this crap and there's currently no "opt out" for it. There is no way to not see the hyper hate titles to the threads.
Trust me, it's not that I can't handle the opinions. I take special pride in pointing out fuzzy thinking based on lies. AND I certainly am not in favor of censorship. If we as a group decide to stop then that's not censorship.
As with the political issues you post on, it's good to do your homework before making accusations. So far you are in the extreme minority but who knows how many others like seeing political crap on this car forum? They should step forward and vote NO.

I cannot remember a time when so many political threads were started in such a short period of time on the forum. I suspect it is a case of presidential politics and the election being right around the corner that has spurred the flurry of opposing political threads. That, and how polarized the country is at the moment is also likely reflected in the recent rash of political threads.
Maybe a temporary moratorium on political threads/posts for say the next 60 days until the election cycle ends is in order. After that, I suspect we will return to our primary passion, that being the love of ZR-1's.
Any and all thoughts/opinions are encouraged.

Cart and horse. If we all want a cart then we get the cart and after find a horse. The hard part is deciding if that's what we want to do. The less hard part is doing it.
There are current examples of posts needing to be deleted. And in fact it has been done. This would just be whole threads needing to be deleted. And also perhaps reminders of the policy. It's not unlike posting nudity. Who decides what is nude?
On the other hand if a new group called "Politics" was made the home for such stuff and the "New Posts" filter did NOT include the new "Politics" group then ......bingo. "OFF TOPIC" can stay included in the "New Posts" filter and many of us, dare I say the majority of us would be so very happy.
I only like this last solution because when I get board I can go in there and point out BS and fussy thinking but not have to see it served up on a steaming platter everyday. It would be a target rich environment of crusty thinking.

Why not set up your own poll? You'd likely get less blame for pushing one solution over the other. You could formulate it how ever you want but it should contain some form of:
1. No More Politics
2. No More Politics for some magic time period
3. A new "Politics" forum group that does not show up in "New Posts"
4. Ignore the problem, it'll go away
See what the majority wants to do.

Oh I see Scott so it wasn't your idea but since you like it you sure do want to be the instigator who further pushes it in that direction. And you say your in the majority because the poll is 10 to zero. But if I look at all the political threads you decided to enter you are the minority. But I suspect that once the right wingers on this sit see your poll and decide to vote it will be a shut out.

Yes you are correct. The trend is outstandingly in favor or NOT seeing political crap here. And I think it's supported by both left and right. If by posting there is a majority oppose to political crap it causes an uproar of support for wanting political then good. It will have served to "get the vote out".
To that end yes, you are right again. I am instigating for opinions and votes one way or the other. What you'd want to suppress the idea? Sure seems like it.

Scott,
There is no pushing of one solution, rather a suggestion that is reflective of experience with how the forum has been cyclical on the issue of politics. Even at what could be characterized at it's peak in any past year, it has never been like it has for the past month.
We as mods probably should have contacted the few individuals who were responsible for thread bombing of political threads, and asked them to cool it. However we like to treat members like adults and not over moderate, since people should be responsible for their own actions for the most part.
Still a new poll with several different options is not a bad idea. That way we can ascertain what the overall view is of our forum members.

Scott,
I wont beat around the bush with this subject. You say the majority of the people vote in favor for NOT seeing political crap on here, when really most of the people dont want your crap on here. Really, you had 9 threads in one day about Mitt, look we all know who your voting for already!
I dont think there was an issue on political threads until you bombarded Off Topics so much, then your trying to lead the way on getting rid of it. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, yes, even you. I can read between the lines, people are sick of your threads, post and comments. If you just did not post so much on this stuff there would not be an issue.

So your going to make the rules for dirty hands? You're doing laundry and washed your hands? No maybe your going to wash his hands? Only the clean will understand you hands are dirty.

Scott,
I wont beat around the bush with this subject. You say the majority of the people vote in favor for NOT seeing political crap on here, when really most of the people dont want your crap on here.
You maybe right. But it does not alter the fact that I will continue to do it in order to offset the attacks (not just opinions) on religious grounds or racial grounds (the later I have not seen yet)
You'd make a good political spin Dr.
You're spinning the issue from all of us having to see infuriating political posts into one about me. Look I have just as much a right to post infuriating political post as those others that post them. Just because you agree with the other posts and claim "most of the others" do to and not with mine does not make the issue only about my posts as being the problem. That's your opinion. Nice try.
(the above paragraph is going to he hard to understand. You may have to carefully study it)
Really, you had 9 threads in one day about Mitt, look we all know who your voting for already!
You missed the boat on whats going on. Let me try to explain it to you.
It's not about who I will vote for. That is a clue.
And it was in no way my intent to sway or announce my decision. You may have missed that a few days earlier.
Here another clue. I'm tired of seeing religious base hate posts and I try to avoid commenting on them. The problem is I can't avoid seeing the titles that show up in New Posts.
I'm tired of seeing thread titles that I can't avoid which are not just "opinions" but slurs. It reminds me of the days when you'd see "baby killer" on posters shown to Vietnam vetts. I suppose you'd call those "opinions" too.
I dont think there was an issue on political threads until you bombarded Off Topics so much, then your trying to lead the way on getting rid of it.
Again you missed the boat. There was indeed an issue but not a hot enough issue to get attention to it. You are right about trying to lead the way but only lead the way to get opinions from others to try for consensus. I see even you coming out of the woodwork as a result.
Therefore, it worked. If you have any more slams or spins on things fire away .
Everyone is entitled to their opinions, yes, even you. I can read between the lines, people are sick of your threads, post and comments. If you just did not post so much on this stuff there would not be an issue.
I think I already answered why there was so many posts and why you missed the boat. As far as I'm concerned it's over.
Unless there are more religious based hate posts or other posts that go beyond just "opinions" then it should be fairly quiet.
I'm waiting on any action by the moderators that could make not seeing Political posts show up in OFF LINE or other solution.
I fully expect no action at all.

this thread is funny because scottfab seems to start the most political thread on the forum. he just cant handle the other opinion.
Another post aimed at the masses and not the issue.
Fine, let's go.
First you came in late. The posts I made were as a direct result of a flurry of religious and other hate posts. I was bringing attention to this AND offering my "opinion" as a counter point. Just because you'd rather see slams from one sided does not mean I don't get to post some.
So when you say I "seem to start most" your correct as of the last two days. (not any more)
So I can't handle other opinions huh?
Obviously you haven't logged in for a few weeks.

Scott doesn't see it as another opinion. We're haters. I don't hate anybody. I don't hate Obama. I just don't believe in his ideals.
An interesting extrapolation. I call a few posts "hate posts" and now I see a gross generality of "we're haters".
A great spin to the hate posts.
Those that spread hate posts are haters by association.
Now if someone wants to reform from posting hate then saying "I don't hate anybody" is a good start.
Come to think of it, I think I'll turn a new leaf too.
No one is a hater on this forum. They just made a mistake if anything and posted a hate post. Most do not post hate, they post honest opinions. If I disagree I say it but I don't claim their post is hate. Therefore not all claims I make are "you're haters" as you claim.

Hey guys let's not let this guy dictate what happens in our forums. Everyone else I have talked too and agreed or disagreed has been very cordial. As I said in an earlier forum, I learn much more from those that disagree (respectfully) than I do from those that agree with everything I say. Why cant we have spirited conversations as in past generations without hate or personal attacks. I could be wrong but I'm usually not just ask my wife! Lol

Scott, I applaud your cogent and factually based input into the political banter... And believe the silent majority is fed up with all the extremism and aggression.
But, I just don't get why everyone wants to use our forum to argue politics and alienate and insult one another. I support the silent majority who are here to talk about our car hobby and not be reminded of all the anger and derision in our country every time they log onto the forum. So can't you all just carry on in Private Messages and remember what your mom told you about Religion and Politics - Keep it to yourself!
