Can anyone tell me if I should be getting a trouble code if I unplug a sensor, say cam or crank, and then try to start the car? Does the motor need to run to register a trouble code? If I get no trouble codes does it mean my computer is shot? Is the ECU also responsible for trouble codes or is there a seperate computer for diagnostics? I would greatly appreciate anybody's input, thankyou.

You have two seletions for codes. ECM and CCM. Depending upon the year of the car will make a dfference as well as to how much they integrate with one another.

Codes will be set with the car running.

Unplugging a crank sensor will not set a code from my memory. Makes it tough to trouble shoot.

What is the issue you are having?

Trouble codes set only when running huh? That does make this infinitely more difficult.

I would greatly appreciate borrowing your ISS machine. If I haven't found a solution by the end of Sunday I would love to meet up with you. Thankyou for all your help.
