I have the fever for a 2013 ZR1. Been looking hard at a black one. Anyone here have a new one and can tell me their experience? Trying to show restraint but dear wife says "go ahead.". She's not helping!

Then what in the hell are you waiting for?

Your right. Hard to pull trigger. No dealership will let you test drive, so looking for experiences here.

Ok I'll give you one. They're awesome. And thats just all there is to it. I have three friends who have the and one let me take his for a spin. You'd have to get an LPE 415 to beat it. But if ypu can afford a 2013C6 ZR1 then you can probably afford to send it to LPE and nothing will touch it.

True. Just torques my a** that I can't drive one. Then there's the whole Obamamobile subject but that's a whole other topic. LOL! Thanks

If I was a serious buyer and a dealer would not let me test drive it with a salesman.....I'd smile and walk out the door with my checkbook in hand.

If you are a serious buyer and they won't let you test drive it? I wouldn't consider buying from them.

There are some serious deals on "new" 2011 and 2012 ZR1's.... (not much difference between a 2011 thru 2013.

I've driven a few new ZR1's and they are unreal performance machines! No disappointments!!!!!!

Don't even consider a car unless you are getting at least $15k off sticker.

Good luck and enjoy!

The US gov't, not President Obama, owns a minority share (26%) of GM. That means that 74% of GM is owned by others who are not the US gov't. I'm also not trying to be political, just accurate.

Before any false rumors get started about any "Obamamobile" at least
check them out on www.snopes.com.
You may find some facts there.

What's an "Obamamobile"?

Easy. That would be the Chevy Volt!!

There are other failures in the lineup, but the VOLT is a prime example of the Obama administration's forcing a huge "green" looser onto GMs books; just another torpedo in the side of the GM's ship that is already taking on water.

According to David Menzies for MSN Autos, in order for the taxpayers to break even, the 26% of the shares we own would have to be at the $53/share level. However, last week it closed at approx $20/share, and GMs stock is still slipping.

People have written books describing what went wrong with GM, but the Chevy Volt and the administrations role in forcing it down GM's (that would be our) throat deserves a chapter all by itself.

Bottom line: We all as taxpayers have an vested interest in GM's success. But, as taxpayers, are we going to throw more money at it, or should it go into bankruptcy in order to reorgainize and perhaps survive. Many think that is what should have been allowed to happen in the first place. Who knows...maybe GM would be pulling itself from it's ashes by now? I'd be willing to bet a ham sandwich the VOLT wouldn't be in the portfolio!

I hope GM survives, preferably on its own. I'd like to think I could look forward to driving a new ZR1, and maybe even see a mid-engine, 32 valve DOHC Corvette someday. (Well, I can dream, can't I??)

David Menzies' article...http://www.thepassinglane.ca/2012/08/why-is-gm-in-trouble-again-just-consider-the-2013-malibu.html

pure bs.
The Volt was in development years before Obama. And would have come out even if the wretched old senator for AZ would have won.
What crap.
Might as well blame Obama for global warming while you're at it. And hey why hasn't he (Obama) cleaned up the Ozone layer problem. What's his problem anyway? He's had four years.

Crap?? What crystal ball tells you the Volt would have "...come out even if the wretched old senator for AZ would have won." If not for the bailout, the Volt might well have have sunk (as it might should have) along w/ GM.

The financial metrics of the Volt are dismal. Huge development costs, including new battery technology (and now the intelectual property of the Chineese), along with the rest of the clean sheet engineering of the concept, requires the high tip-in cost of the vehicle to too few customers in line to buy one (at that price). And, then there is the cash incentive (ultimately paid by taxpayers) for anyone buying one added to the real cost - which combines to make it a loser that would likely not have survived were it to stand on its viability in the market place - especially at a time when GM can least afford such an expendature.

But, like the Solyndra debacle, the writing was on the wall for all to see before the government got involved. And, like the Solyndra, the administration's desire to push a "green" agenda superseded any responsible business decisions where the Volt is involved. The "green initiative" is one of the administrations pet projects to a fault: Putting lipstick on a pig and (the Volt) you still have a pig. In spite of the Volt metrics going over a cliff before the bailout, Once the fix was in, Obama put himself out in front - even did a press conference and even took a photo op in the vehicle and later stood before cameras and reporters to tout the thing as an example of the kind of vehicle that was going to save GM.

I'm not blaming Obama for the Volt's failure (to date), but by his direct actions he has his own political skin in the game; a car that is by all accounts a dismal failure. So, IMO, far as it goes - good or bad - it is fair to call the Volt the "Obamamobile" by his own making...is the point.

(BTW fab, speaking of crap, do you mean that "wretched old Senator from AZ...the man who served his country and paid a price at the hands of his enemies beyond anything most humans could ever endure? The same man having the courage to give his all in the service of his country so "occupiers" and other ignorant fools would have the freedom to call him "wretched" or the like? That Senator? I dissagree with many things JM supports, but he damn well has earned the respect of all of us - politics or no. IMO, we all should be so dedicated and have given so much to this country as John McCain.)

Sorry, Micky D. I don't know what this has to do with ZR1s But, if you do pull the trigger, we expect a full report...and pictures (of course!). I hope you get it. love to hear more about it from the perspective of a ZR-1 driver!

The Volt would have come out either way and it was the right play to make. It is the kind of technology we need. I'm not really sure you use gas in your car. But have you been to the pump lately? And did you know that the stuff we call "gas" comes from outside the US? I know that's all Obama's fault too but bare with me.
Lets' say it together.
The sky has fallen

The sky has fallen , oh my
The sky has fallen.
This is all Bush's fault. The development of the Volt as well as the collapse of the real-estate market happened under Bushes nose while he sat around looking for WMDs and reading books to 1st graders.
The almost TRILLION dollars wasted (oh and yah tax payers money) looking for non existent WMDs could well have been spent elsewhere.
(disclaimer: I do know that the development of the Volt is not Bush's fault, just trying to draw comparisons to blaming Obama for every ill in the country)

But, like the Solyndra debacle, the writing was on the wall for all to see before the government got involved. Yah, we don't need to worry about the planet. That's a great plan.
What is all the "green" stuff anyway. Must be another Obama failrue right? There will be plenty of gas forever. We can continue thinking like cavemen and let the future generations deal with it.
Sounds like a plan Bush would have come up with.

And how dare that Obama guy try to help promote and get the economy going by getting people to spend money. He should encourage people to hoard their money and stay hidden away scared to come out, like others do. All the while claiming "The sky has fallen"

Name calling is a forte of the feeble mind. I guess we should call the twin tower memorial the "Bush Park".

That's the same kind of reasoning as "hey let's go look for WMDs" is.
Just because one is a true war hero does not qualify for being a President. The voters agree, sorry. That war is as much of a black spot on this country as Bush and his search for Bin Ladin and WMDs.

Look finger pointing and complaining about the Volt is useless. I applaud the effort that went into the Volt. The technology will move forward even if all the negative articles about the Volt keep coming.
There's plenty of examples of that. Take the computer by Apple called the "Lisa". A total economic failure and yet that technology lead to the Mac and that failing company call Apple is now one of the world's largest not just largest in the US.

I choose to say the glass is the answer. It can be filled with many good things and I don't even have to call it a derogatory name.

I think I've made my point about pointing fingers and calling names.
I'm letting this go now.

Something libs never seem to understand... Private enterprise takes risks on new products at their own peril. Socialist/centrists take risks with other people's money. There is a BIG difference.

Lol, I know it gets a little tense here sometimes. If I could buy a C6 ZR1, I wouldn't hesitate. Even if I could afford a new one, I would still probably buy a used one. Saw a '10 for $85K w/ 3K mi. Almost new for $40K less. If you buy one, can I take it for test drive:wink:.

Hey , I want to buy a Volt. By my calculations the car has a 14 year payback. 14 years ain't great, but there are very few cars that actually have any kind of payback. My payback calculations are based on todays gas prices, and every tax payer helping me buy it. $7500 federal rebate.

Lol, yes it's definitly cooler up here. But I've never been to Texas before. I'd imagine there's a lot of open road to have fun w/ ZR1 in largest state in the continental US. Now, if you can just get a dealer to let you take a test drive (still can't believe they won't). Hopefully, there's a brother not too far from you w/ a new one to help you out.

Really? How do you know? They're over 100 cars apart. Btw, I googled ZR1 in Conroe TX. Parkway Chevy and Mac Haik Chevy have new ones. Did you try both? Here's the link http://www.chevrolet.com/cars/2013-corvette-zr1/search-inventory.extapp.html?tp_gmna-btl=/locateNewVehicle/InitUS

I remember when I bought my 99 Cobra I could not get them to let me test drive until we negotiated to deposit - I could refuse the car after the drive. I have some sympathy for a dealer holding an expensive, limited and desirable car. Pretty easy to rack up 100s of miles indulging legit seeming prospects' bucket lists. I am sure you could negotiate a similar right of refusal.

I also think you could manage a Z06 test drive much more easily and know the ZR1 is "even more so". The C6 Z06 is probably the fastest and most capable factory trim car I'll ever drive in anger. That thing was psychic - I was fighting my Cobra all day at an autocross and then the Z06 "just did what I meant", and that was before he did much modification....

Don't know what I was thinking Vilant bout our z's being made within a day of each other. Duh, I forgot about other C4's.
I will continue to try and test drive one. I know it's hard for dealers to know if someone is serious or just wanting to joyride a low production car. And wil they be the one who makes the sale? But I'm gonna keep looking.
