Long as I don't drop dead, Dom's drilled rotors, calipers and pads will hit the mail Monday morning. These things are beasty, if they'd fit behind my rims, I'd be sending Dom his money back with some lame excuse why I couldn't pick them up. Altought he already has pictures of them sitting on my desk.

Pete,
You'll need 18s for the Z calipers. =Jeff= came over yesterday and we test fit his Shelby wheels w the Brembos. They fit better than the C5 brakes he currently has. And the Brembo rotor offset worked out with the tire/wheel combo sitting flush with the fender line. The Brembos were on the car w A molds so they clear
17" wheels.

BTW Dom, almost got busted picking these up. Hit the toll both with a new Shelby GT500. I figured he'd spank me, but would be fun anyway. I hit the ez pass, he had to stop and pay. So as I'm puttin' along waiting for him to clear the toll, which he seemed to be having a hard time doing. I finally figured he was heading in the other direction, so I booted it. I look back to see what he's doing, and what do I see???? My Statey. Officer friendly hesitated, I let off, he went the other way. Shelby must have gone the other way too.

Fortunatly we didn't play, 'cause I don't think the cop was going to join in. He was in an Intrepid, so we both would have wooped him.
And, while I was in Maine I passed a blacked out Mustang GT. Now there's a guy that want's to play. Lucky for me, he had already pulled someone over and his blue lights were on.:dancing

Remember, the GT is heavy, a 4 seater, and very un-aerodynamic.
You might be surprised how well you would do. A buddy of mine
brought his GT to a mile shootout event and was VERY disappointed.

And 650 is only a short list away. Somewhat longer list gets to 750.
Always wondered what an LT5 would do with forced induction.

Jeff, Todd just put together an LT5 427 at---wasn't it around 700 hp? That was NA, imagine forced induction.
Speaking of the Shelby, I believe somewhere on that list is 1000 hp. When Carol Shelby was asked if you really need 1000 hp, he said 'no, you only need about 200, but don't you want 1000?' Not an exact quote, but to the point.

Pete,
Once we get the brakes on, we can certainly test fit them. We could use Jeff's wheel like we did for the Brembos. Any chance your buddy could make
2 round spacers 40mm diameter, 9.05mm thick w a
14.5mm dia. hole in the center for the caliper mounting bolt?
I'm sure he could.
How soon you need these.

Pete,
I should have the calipers back by Thursday. I could try test fitting everything this coming weekend. If that works, then I'd ask for another pair of spacers.
We could probably try it at your place or mine. Then Jeff could see how his Shelby's fit.

Yes, I took your suggestion. The script was fading as I cleaned them w Brake Cleaner. So I looked around and thought the bling would be an interesting offset sitting behind the silver paint Z06 wheels. www.mooremetalfinishing.com (http://www.mooremetalfinishing.me) in Rockford, Il. I also got a replacement decal (in purple)for the script.

Sure we can test it, but I am sure that the calipers will need some trimming to fit

-=Jeff=-

while it may look that way, did you read this post about the install?
Jeff,
The Z06 calipers on my car had to be modify in order to fit. Notice the smoother and rounder shape at the skirt of calipers. The calipers from the factory are kind of square and edgy. My friend machined it down to about 1/2 inch. The inner lips of the star on the Shelby had to machined down about 5mm. I moved the inner parts of the wheels to the outside. Last longer studs was installed along with half inch spacer. It was a experiments but worked out in the end. The new brakes works great. It was alot of work though, but paid off.
I use to have the C5 z06 on my car with the Shelby. I had to use a 1/4 wheel spacer to make it fit.

Looks problematic. Undoubtedly its a big reason for the stock Z06 wheels using the design they do.

efn,
Got the rotors today and picked up the calipers. This is one MASSIVE brake system although I believe they may be lighter than the Brembos. The guy that polished the calipers was pretty thrilled with how they came out. He said the quality of the aluminum used for the calipers was excellent which is why they came out so shiny. I'll have pics shortly. Looking at the offset on the rotors, I believe this will really help tuck in the front wheels into the fender line. BTW, funds are in the mail tomorrow.

Those took much longer than they were suppose to, hope you weren't getting worried.
They look ok? Had some surface rust.
They weighted a ton.
I think that package is biger than the brakes we just did on one of my F550's

Hi Dom, you may want to think about powdercoating the hats and inner veins of the rotors, they rust up pretty quick. What are your thoughts on protecting the polish of your calipers as well as the purple Corvette decal? Looking forward to when she is all put 2gether, great job! :handshak:

Rick,
Not sure bout the PC, but I did ask the guy who did the polishing about "clear" on the calipers. He recommended not doing it saying it would yellow and dull the luster. Could also end up as a wrinkle finish. I'm assuming the decals will last but they are cheap enough if I need to replace them. I'll be looking to test fit the calipers this weekend if I get the Z back from Al in time.

Yesterday over at Al's, we had a chance at mocking up the fitting of the C6Z calipers. The 14" rotor makes the use of an adapter mandatory so that's on order. Bolting the C6Z caliper directly to the spindle doesn't provide the needed "flying height" for the caliper over the rotor. So much for keeping the caliper down low on the rotor. Also got a pair of StopTech SS braided lines for the front brakes. The current Brembo lines use a fitting on the caliper and not the typical GM banjo bolt.
