Hi ho. Anybody care to share about who makes good, correct igniton coils? Mine is totally stock. 1/6 seems to be acting up and might do them all (wires are getting replaced too).

nothing wrong with the factory ones, are you sure it's not an injector issue?

Thanks for your suggestions! Once in a while this internet is good for something. besides poker. my bush league stress-test showed weak 1 and 6 sparks so....hello accel or d-e-l-c-Ohhhhhhhhhh. would anybody use a 'standard' coil....just asking!!!

For the cost savings of using a generic aftermarket replacement, it's really not worth the chance of it being of lesser quality. It's not like it's a quick job to swap out a bad coil, after all.

Not Accels!!
Not MSDs. I had MSD in my 73 454. They're crap.
Accels now working fine for 12yrs in the LT5.

I had the box on the 73 too. It worked great.
Coil didn't.

Funny you mentioned a mouse nest. First plenum pull revealed a terrific mouse....village? amusement park? definitely not just a nest. Had wierd dietary laws. Starter cable insulation and thats all. Asked about the standard cause I have one handy. but resisitance is 6 k ohms and originals are 5.3. Wonder if it would have made a difference. Oh well. will never know. Cheers!

When I did my injectors I replaced the coils with new AC Delcos, the coil for 1-6 died at 8000 miles.I pulled them all out and replaced them with MSDs.

Three years ago at Carlisle I had a slight miss only in 6th gear with a slight
load. When I got home I ohm check all the injectors and they were right on
specs. When I got to the coils I had a 5-8 coil dead. I got a new one from chevy but it didn't have the cyl numbers stamped on top but no big deal. Then
I thought if this coil went bad are the rest waiting till I put the plenum back on?
So then I thought if I change them all maybe I should put a better performance
coil so I went with the Accels.
They fit with a little bit of modification, you have to remove small plastic tabs
on each one so they sit next to each other again no big deal I used a hacksaw
blade only took a few seconds, took longer to find the hacksaw blade.:)
While I was doing the coils I decided to change those fancy ignition wires of
which I also ohmed and they were right on specs too but I replaced with a
new set from chevy without the logo printed on them. I cleaned and put the
original wires in the box for a later date.
I had about 28000 miles when the miss started and now I have almost 30000 and no problems but I didn't notice much of an improvement over the stock
coils, I just hope they last a long time. I'll see if I can post a few pics of the
coils, I'm just learning how to get pics up...jim

AC Delco is standard and they'll fire the 415's so they will be fine for yours.

Thanks for all your input. In the end I tried 4 new MSD 8224's from Smut Racing and for my trouble got 8 misfiring plugs. A new Delco coil to replace the bad 1/6 and putting the other good, original ones back got 8 happy sparklers which never seem to miss a beat. Go figure. Is there a lesson here? You decide.

FWIW, on Monday I ordered 4 Delco D545 coils from Amazon for $34.27 each. It was the least expensive I could find online. I'm looking at Amazon this evening and they show the coils for $45.07. I was hoping I could point folks to a good deal. Anyway, if you need parts, it doesn't hurt to see what Amazon is asking when you're ready to buy.
