View Full Version : General update/heads up...

Hey fella's...
Just wanted to give you all a little update/heads up on what's been going on with me. Some of you know, most don't...
I sold my Truck Wash up here in Alberta at the end of January, almost simutaniously bought a house in Phoenix AZ. Haven't spent much time there yet. Mananged to get one of my Zee's there in April. Beautiful driving in the area, absolutly love it.
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee142/flyinryan_ZR1/ZR-1athomeinPhoenix.jpg
Have a firend of mine has been bugging me for a couple years to come work with him at his shop in Glendale AZ.
http://www.rwrengines.com/
Have never been able to take him up on it because I was tied to my Truck Wash here. Have always dreamed of one day ending up somewhere of good climate. So I'm trying to make a life change, I guess you might say.
I'm heading down next week to submit my work visa papers, which has been a seriously painful process to put it mildly, once I submit I can't leave the U.S. until they give me an answer, sounds like I'll be there for the better part of July. If things go good we want to be in Phoenix full time by November, hopefully :fahne:.
So, to that end...I'm need to start thinking about paring down some things. I'm not in full bore 'Sell' mode or anything, but thinking about it at least...Some of you may have seen on the main page I just listed my Black 90, 29 mile Zee (Thanks for posting so fast!). Lot's of paperwork on the car, never been registered etc., etc. Not really sure what I need/want out of it, but I'd be willing to package with other things if anyone's interested, crate LT-5's/ZF S6-40's or parts/memorablilia/collectable's/factory rims etc. A lot of you know or have seen what I have, but if you don't, feel free to go to 'My Albums' under my profile & look around. Most of the part's aren't really visable, but I have a bunch.
For the record, I'm not selling all & everything ZR-1/LT-5 related, just want to pare down. Plan on keeping two ZR-1's for sure, maybe three...I'm set-up pretty serious up here but I don't plan on doing the same in PHX. Part of the reason I have the set-up here in Canada, is because we drive the cars so little, I'm able to enjoy them through out the bad months. But in PHX., I plan on driving more & standing around looking at them less.
As always guys, package deals work, bundle stuff together, the deals get better. Again, looking to thin out, would rather sell more things to fewer people, if possible.
Thanks for listening to me ramble fella's, feel free to contact me with any questions on what I do or don't have. Also, I'll be back & forth between Edmonton Alberta & Arizona a bit in the future, so if guys need something delivered not to far off that path, I'd be willing to deliver if it worked out. Thanks guys...:)

Ryan,
If you like 107+ heat you'll be in heaven. Smog rules suck, too. Hope all goes the way you want it

Welcome to Arizona!
107 degrees really isn't too bad, it's the 115-118 that can get brutal (but that's typically only in July and then the monsoons come in to help cool things off a little). Coming from Canada, you may have a tough time initially -- need to let your blood thin out a bit to adjust...
One great thing about AZ is that if you get collector car insurance, you won't have to smog your cars ever again.

No, haven't stopped in to meet Bill B. in person yet, have dealt with him in the past & plan to hook up. We will be able to do LT-5's 'No Problem' at RWR. I do them now but up here it's such a major, major pain with shipping, I don't ever promote myself on here to do it. Too painful with regards to shipping. I know people complain about shipping to Australia, but frick, where right here??? At least Australia you have the excuse of some distance. I'm a head/intake porter so that's no issue either. I'll be the LT-5 expert on board & we can handle 'Anything' with regards to LT-5's. You can go on 'My album's' under my profile to check out some things I've built.
I always say you can complain about the heat & complain about the cold, but not 'Both'! Trust me, I complain about the cold plenty, so won't hear a peep outta me about heat. Generally like/love heat. I know, I know...not heat like in AZ. for extended periods of time, but I can guarentee you it's WAY easier trying to go from cold to heat than vise versa. The cold flat out sucks!
No comment for Lee...LOL.
I don't drink beer or eat doughnuts (did you know doughnuts have the most trans fats out of anything?...True story). I do like to dip my bill into the odd J.D/Coke with a wedge of Lime though. The Lime supply in AZ. may take a hit, LOL.
Thanks for the props guys & comment on the house. Has a detached 24'x34' shop in the back also.
That's great Ryan! Glad to have you in the neighborhood. I'll be in touch.

Stop by Vegas on one of your trips! I loved AZ when I lived there in 1998 and I still do...Thanks Ron. Kind of weird with me wanting to sell off things, like I said...Don't want to kick the ZR-1 hobby, just some parts/cars to ease the move. If anything, this is one factor in moving, being closer to everything & being able to not only use the car but hook up with some of you all :).
I've owned my first ZR-1 (90) since July 2006, barely drive it up here because the roads are so bad, season so short, bugs can be brutal...friend/customer of mine took an empty trailer down to Mopars at the Strip in early April, he was bringing back parts, asked if I wanted to take anything down, I said HELL YA'...so he took my first 90, I flew into Vegas & drove it to AZ. I stayed in AZ. that trip about eight days, I put approx. four times the miles on the car than the whole time I owned it since July 06 driving up here. Loved every minute. LOVE driving the car down there :-D.

Hey Ryan,
Sounds great and congratulations! Nice house too, but you have a nice one up north too. I'd like to look you up next summer (2013) when I visit Phoenix on vacation in July and also going to the Bondurant Driving School as a gift to myself. I will be in Sierra Vista this August, but not sure if you will be in the area or if I will have time then. Sure would be great to meet you in person. Take care and best wishes with your new adventure.

Great move Ryan,
House looks very familiar. A lifelong friend of mine just sold his place north of Phoenix. And he is a NCRS judge by the name of Frank. You buy his house?
Agree completely with you regards to moving hot to cold or cold to hot. I moved from Alaska to the Middle East. Never say never but moving back to bunny boots and the like would be extremely difficult.
Enjoy the great driving weather.=D>

Welcome to the USA! Plenty of room for another extremely talented "carbide cowboy"! ;) (And, I know what you mean about the hot/cold debate. Hot wins every time! Besides...its a dry heat!;))
And, I think I still have a few aluminum chips in my favorite sweatshirt...that remind me of you, from time to time! (Ouch!...What the???)

Finally got some temporary internet here in AZ. Been warm here, no complaints though, I'll take it over any cold easy. Zee's been running great in the heat, no issues, A/C's cold, engine temp's never get over moderate. Drive it every sngle day. Pretty decent for a 22 year old car...if I say so :)

Is your radiator stock? You betcha'. Even has a screen (patio door type stuff) I put in front of it for the bugs back home. Could take that out if I wanted...no bugs down here to speak of. I'm 'Really' enjoying that aspect. I actually drive the car more than I clean it here! Back North It's about 2-1, cleaning vs. driving...which sucks the big pachoga.

Hey Ryan congrats just saw the thread for the first time and I have to admit it was quite the surprise to see the change in your life. Talk about going from one extreme to another you da man.
So are you going to someday become a actual US citizen?
My mom held off for 30 years but finally did go the dual route of both Canada and USA citizenship. Maybe you will do that someday as well.
In fact now she is bragging about becoming a Floridian for tax reasons vs Illinois.
She is a snowbirder between the two.

I doubt I can make Spokane this year as we are waiting on a new grandbaby anytime now, she's due at the beginning of September. I imagine we'll be busy for awhile now. Will you be coming through Boise to get to Spokane now. If so let's at least try to hook up for a quick visit.

Hey Ryan Congrats!!!
It is Doug calling from way back. As you probably new we headed back to Calgary (still friggin' cold) with work etc. Funny thing is my family and I had just spent the first two weeks of August in AZ at Lake Powell. With a young family I have hardly drove my Z over the last 3 years. Sits in the garage and gives me the guilt look...Since I got into this boating thing we are contemplating selling my Z.
Don't really have to but running out of space as I am getting really bad at spoiling the boys with toys.
I think I will post the last Blue '95 #438 on the Registry this weekend...(tears)
Bye the way we get to Lake Powell AZ (many relatives in AZ) every year and maybe someday we'll cross paths again as it would be great to catch up on how you and your young family are doing!! Besides I have a 502 in my boat that someday may warrant some Ryan magic!!!
Again...SERIOUSLY CONGRATS...you are living the dream (my wife Darlene wants to buy in Page AZ...sick of the cold)!!!!
All the best,
