View Full Version : Tech 1 error – unit or cable bad?

I purchased a Tech 1 off eBay, but it doesn’t work.

It won’t read data from either my 90 or 85. Both cars will go into diagnostic mode by connecting pins A and B on the ALDL, and I can read codes on both cars using my cheapo code reader. When I performed a self-test on the Tech 1, it passed every test except [f7] which produced “High Speed Diff. Serial Data Test Fault.”

Does anyone know if it’s possible that just the cable (Tech 1 to ALDL) is bad, or is it likely the Tech 1 itself is bad.

Of course, I will “return” it if it can’t be fixed. But, if I can find a cable, I might try that too.

Thanks

I returned my unit to Vetronix in santa barbara or thereabouts for a look see. Both my cable and the main board were bad.

They won't list cables as still available, but it seems they still have some...or at least a collection of good used ones- they rebuilt my whole unit including a new button cover applique. If you have to ask how much it cost- just return the one you got...it was a lot.

Contact "Antrone" at 800-321-4889 ext 4 "9125". They do have some cables left, at least they did when I bought a new power cable and ALDL cable. They arn't cheap, about $150 for both.

Just as a follow-up … I had to open a “case” with eBay, and after waiting a week I’m now shipping it back to the seller for a refund. I was really looking forward to doing some troubleshooting with a Tech 1. They do show up from time to time, so I’ll keep looking.

When I contacted the repair center and described the problem they responded:

Repairs on a Tech 1 run from $130.00 to $500.00.

I was tempted to send it in and see what it would cost to repair, but the seller wouldn’t work with me, unfortunately.

Cliff, did you send yours out for repair, or did you get another one?
