ALCON,
Over the last few months I've been working with the MegaSquirt Guys (http://www.diyautotune.com/). These guys's produce aftermarket DIY ECM's along with aftermarket production ECM replacements. Long story short is they are going to produce a run of 10-20 ZR-1/LT5 ECM's with their newest technology. The amazing part is they say they can utilize all of our existing electronics to include the BCM.
Here are some specifics:
Much better injector resolution
8 ignition outputs (provides the option for a LS1 style coil per plug)
I/O. for Nitrous control (stage or progressive), water meth control, electric water pump and numerous other devices can be controlled
The valet mode switch can likely be retained. The plan is to offer switchable tables, which can be user defined. Examples could be "Emissions check" mode for you guys in CA, high power vs lower power (similar to original valet mode), pump gas vs race gas, or pump gas vs E85. For turbo cars, another option could be low boost vs high boost. This can be user programmed.
The unit will contain an SD slot so you can data log without your laptop. You'll have USB connections to connect your laptop for easy tuning!
Here are a few of the objectives:
The unit will be housed in a very similar looking ECM box with the correct connectors enabling you to just plug in your existing harness. NO CUTTING, PINNING or SPLICING!
I've also asked them to look into bypassing the DIS module. This may indeed be doable which would add an entire new benefit to this system.
Here are a few of the benefits as I see them:
Tune-ability
Upgradability
Availability (of both the ECM and DIS modules)
Ability to have better NOS, Meth and Boost Control
Flexibility
What's next?... Development...
The development phase is going to take around 3 months. After the initial development I will send an ECM to each of our tuners for evaluation and testing. My ultimate goal is to have them available by the Las Vegas Gathering which is the first weekend in Oct.
How to get one:
I'll be distributing them through our tuners and Jerry's Gaskets.
Price - Still to be determined
Opportunity:
I need a car for development. These guys are just north of Atlanta GA. I can ship them my car but it makes better sense if one of our members that are close buy can offer up theirs. It needs to be a car that has little to no mods. They would need your car for up to three months. We can discuss terms if anyone is interested.
Cheers,
Ron

Nice.....can you ballpark a price...I am assuming this may be 3K or more

I could be persuaded to give up my car for a few months if the deal is right. It is a 91 with no mods and 52000 on the ticker. I am in SLC, UT. Let me know if this is of any interest to you.

I'm guesstimating $1800-$2000 retail which is a heck of a deal.
Corey says that he has to charge $1000 just to wire an aftermarket unit in that won't do half as much. Especially when it comes to the BCM integration. I looked into the Big Stuff 3 which is a great system but by the time you buy the extra fuel injector harness and all the sensors, trigger wheel and computer I was in the $4500 range before installation. $2k is a much better...

Ron

I'm looking for a local guy. You would spend $2k just in shipping your car to and fro... So even if I gave you a unit it would still cost you $2k...
Thanks for the offer though...
Are you going to make the Vegas Gathering?

I have one of the first MS units sold/assembled. They have come a long way in the past years. The software is free and there is even software to send the output to a computer screen with a wide selection of guages.
Both Tod and I am having problems getting good driving manners with our packages. Mine 396 stage 2 cams extreme PnP, his 427 with even more exterme PnP and wilder cams. I know I would be interested in a plug in system with the software that is already avaiable for the unit. I am currently running dual wbo2 just to try and get the dirveability right. Woud not mind being a genny pig.

Tyler,
While I think this would be a great system for you I need to start with a car that's mostly stock. Do you also have a stock car we could use?
BTW - I didn't put it above however you can either WB or NB O2's with this thing...

Ron

Im surprised Dom hasn not jumped on this one yet. I remember a LS1 coil experiment a little while back. The bypassing the DIS is very intruging as is a SD card input

I'm about 6 hours from Atlanta, and my motor is pretty much stock other than exhaust... but I'd hate to lose use of the car for 3 months.

Tyler, the shop that build your motor why didn't they tune it?
This is why a camed LT5 needs to be left to the pros, not for DIYer's.
Also you say Stage II cams Stage II exhaust is too big still could be tuned to drive nice, drop it off, i'll take care of it.:-D

Take the tune up with Corey. This motor is running no secondaries, agressive pnp, the first set of Jeal headers, one of the first sets of B&B with a xpipe and 36 in chambered exhaust pipes in lue of resonators, and full on injectors all the time, not something even pros have much expience with. Watched it with dual widebands yesterday and it is around 14.7 afrs most of the time in normal driving with one bank going slighly lean, its close but the main problem is the refusal to idle down when the clutch is put in until it comes to a stop. I think its in the iac steps as they show only 5 in the step down counts from 60 mph to 0 with the final step at 30. Hopefull I will get TunerPro set up on my non serial laptop tomorrow so I can watch what calibration cells are active. Finally got a decent *.adx file so I can link it to the actual *.bin the motor is running on. The *.xdf file is complete hack from the an ORIGINAL GM calibration document that I have had for a while. I give credit for the *.xdf hack to Tod P who had most of it done when I sent him the document. He also did the *.ads file which has been converted to *.adx to work with the most recient version of TunerPro. I ain't no pro but I been around long enough (1997) to know what works.

PS I have one of the first MegaSquirts so know quite a bit about that too.

Where can one access the ADX? I have one that worked with my 89 L98 that I re-worked for the 90 Z but would like to see what I might have missed

Tyler sounds like Your Z drives just fine that is the way the factory did it to resolve other issues.
If you want this done right you need to take/bring the whole car, otherwise you will have other issues if you only make this one adjustment to the chip program.
Trust me i know this issue very well, i run Stage III cams in my 350ci
