I'm just curious how difficult it is to dial our cars in? I'm lucky enough to have a few good tuners close by but nobody wants to touch it. I can't imagine it's that different from ls motors with the exception of having to pull the chip, erase, and burn. Am I wrong?

There is that, but it is a speed density system also- no mass air flow- but I actually think that makes it easier, but somewhat time consuming if you change the cams or engine size.

You might be good to buy one of the popular off-the-shelf tunes and have your guy tweak it slightly if it doesn't run at the target AFR or pings on the local fuel.

Thanks. The car has an HAT prom but needs to be adjusted for the 10% ethanol and dialed in. The only mods are ported Plenum/injector housings full exhaust and the HAT prom. I really thought about attempting it myself but I've never tuned anything in my life. Thanks again.

You can start by reading this material:

Our motors are SD(Speed Density) not MAF (Mass Air Flow). Frankly there isn't much difference since one calc's airflow and the other measures it directly. Fundamentally, there isn't much diff between LS and LT-5 calibrations except that the LS has had 16 years of additional development. The LT-5 egine management has been frozen in time. But the basics are the same, Fuel, Spark etc. However, it helps to know some of the "quirks" or characteristics of the motor.
If you decide to start tuning, jus a word of warning. Once you realize you can tailor the tune to your liking, it gets pretty addictive.
There's always one little thing you want to change or try.

That was my first thought but can you really get it spot on from another time zone? Maybe he can, I probably should ask him.

No knock on Marc but part throttle driveability is not something you tune via remote
control.

If one were to datalog the engine during operation - would that change your opinion regarding what can be reasonably achieved remote?

that depends on what's done to the car. if it's a stock car I see no reason why it can't

You could do that if the car being tuned had an Ostrich on it so a new bin could be emailed and downloaded easily. Sending proms via mail is just too time consuming. And also, you want to make sure the datalog covers as much of the
MAP v RPM cells as possible. Finally, I might notice some things about a tune a novice would not while driving. That isn't available remotely.


Even if the motor is stock, each motor will have its own characteristics. As an example a stock motor w different gears or aluminum flywheel has a different optimal tune. When you tune your own, close isn't good enough.

You need to use piggyback board onto stock prom for Ostrich.
