CDM (radio tuner)...Really!??? Love these cars, but the little things are hard to keep after.
I hear this job will make the steering column rebuild sound like fun. tempted to spend a grand and go aftermarket. btw the amps and tape player still work great so the unit still has sound.

Upgrade just say no to the 80s technology. This is pretty normal C4 stuff don't forget that radio is over 20 years old. GC

Sounds like you gave your head unit a "donkey punch". Hahaha! Every Z owner I know has something not working on there head unit. Cd works but tape deck doesn't. Cd doesn't work but tape works. None of them work but the radio woks ect. Luckily everything works perfectly in mine.

If originality doesn't matter to you then Id go for it. But I have to admit that having a cassette deck and cd player all in one is very cool and nostalgic. Of course it does help if it all works.

well, I turned it on and the radio still comes in in spats and spurts, but the tuner is stuffed I'm pretty sure.
I like the original deck...plus nobody will smash your window out over it. Probably gonna start spending 30-40 minutes a night on it before dark for a few days until I can get it out.

You know what they say about the freaks coming out at night ;) You need to stop inhaling the Berileum copper dust. You know that it will bring out your drag queen tendencies Carter. Its not safe to be in a machine shop cutting chips in a skirt and high heals. Lol!

This was the single most challenging job Ive ever done in all the years Ive been working on my cars.Picture the Pass seat out, your on your back with your feet in the back of the car and your looking up into a 9 inch square hole thats about 5 inches from your face. Not a fun job in the least.

Definitely a bad job in the early cars. I've only been involved with removing the CDM completely, so I didn't care if I damaged any wiring on the way out.... The connectors are on multiple sides of the CDM and so it's difficult to manipulate the unit to disconnect them.

Ok, I got the sucker out...the plastic holder and cable router bs bends and is really flexible...I just gorilla fisted it until I figured out how to pull the wires off. 1/2 an hour.
I even put it back in (loosely) and reconnected it to play with the antenna connection- should pop back in ok- just need to hustle and trade for a good one- I'm not feeling the $200-$275 refurbished route.
kind of got it working- definitely messed up. got some static and when I wiggled the antenna, I got country on the classic rock station...so ....here we go.
