View Full Version : B&B Exhaust Question?

I just purchased a new B&B exhaust for my 90 Z and upon examining the 2 mufflers, the tail tips look like they have been welded in different positions on each muffler. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/images/smilies/willy_nilly.gif
If the mufflers are laying upside down, flat on the floor, the tail tips are not the same ie... the right muffler tips are 1" lower to the floor and turned out towards the right more then the left muffler tips are.
Is this normal? Should they be identical only mirror image? Does this system not install in the center of the car? Is there a reason they have to be different? I contacted B&B and they say it "should" be ok but I would like to know before I take the original system off and find out it isnt going to fit correctly.
Does anyone have a system they can check for me or perhaps take a couple pics?
Anyone have a system they haven't installed yet to check their tips and compare them?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well I hate to say it, but it sounds like a defect/quality control issue as mine were identical on both sides. B&B has a policy of trying to tell the customer that everything is ok and hoping you accept it. While I still like their product overall, I do not like their QC or their attempts to trick the customer into thinking defects are normal.
If they give you a rough time let me know and I will look up the name of a rep there that I've dealt with that is more customer friendly.

Thanks! I am going to call them again today. I measured the two mufflers and the tips are not even close to being identical. I am going to send the mufflers back and see if they can make me a new set. I don't want to install the system and have it tacked only to find out it doesn't fit in the bumper openings evenly on both sides, then have to redo it.

Thanks for the pics...the tips you chose look awsome and really fit the car. If you could can I ask you to look at the 4 tail pipes comming out of the mufflers and see if they look different in angle from side to side and also if the tips themselves look to be at different hights to the muffler (not the bumper). I see your system fits very well into the bumper openings so perhaps the mufflers are supposed to be different from side to side to fit the bumper and chassis properly. I am tempted to install mine to see if maybe it is like it is for a reason but wow the two tailpipes and tips are at very different angles. The factory mufflers are identical to each other so hmmmmmm just doesn't look right to me.
