When my 1 to 4 light comes on my car does not force me into 4th gear. I can still shift straight down into 2nd.

Any thoughts or ideas?

It was for fuel mileage certifications.

On the LH side of the transmission, there's a silver canister about 3 inches long by 2 inches across. It's facing down at about a 45 degree angle. That is the solenoid you are looking to disable. Just disconnect the wiring harness from that solenoid.

There's a low-cost after-market plug that keeps the canister and electronics clean.

This is a very easy DIY project.

honestly i'd just get marc to retune the car and have take it out. yes it is exponentially more expensive but marks tune makes the car so much better

Yes. Just go to Marc's web site and order up a "piggy-back" chip. It has all the goodies and a generic tune that works well. Best money I ever spent on my Z.

Here's the link to Marc's site!

Another vote for Marc's chip. I've been very happy with his basic tune.

While you are at it, have him change the Power Key to Default "On" never have to worry or remember to turn the Power Key On. For that matter, you can leave the key in the arm rest box and remove it's unsighly intrusion from the lower console.

FYI, that's a feature with his standard chip.

I like my key, makes people say "what's that?" Adds to the uniqueness.
Just my thoughts.

On the 90's you can't "default" the power key to the "always on" using the program on the EPROM. :o just a fwiw.

Yes and No

You cannot change the code to default, but the 91- newer is a momentary switch to turn on.. turn it again to turn off

the 90, turn it to on and it stays there (how my key is) so in theory it is always on and 'default'
