Why doesn't anyone use compression fittings on the vac lines under the plenum? Either with plastic or even steel lines, in order to prevent un-needed plenum pulls????

Hummm.... That might work. I could be wrong, but I don't get the sense that it is a repeating issue. Once the rubber sleeves/tees are replaced - these 16-21 year old connections - that is that.

And, then there is the "sans secondaries" approach to the problem...

Parts not used seldom break, and they don't cost much to replace! :p & It runs so nice with that stuff "outta thar!"

I plan to remove the secondaries as well.

It just seems that I hear so much about vac leaks, I was just thinking "compression fittings". May not be needed??

When I rebuilt my vacuum system, I just replaced any cracked plastic hose and any hard or brittle rubber connections (the secondaries vacuum solenoid too). And I put small, black zip-ties on any rubber to plastic vacuum hose connection where the plastic side didn't have a little barb or raised area to help keep the rubber part on.

I've put over 3,000 miles on now since I got my Z running and my vacuum system is still nice and tight. One time after being in a store for 30 - 40 minutes or so, when I turned the key on, the pump only ran for a couple seconds and then shut off. And I do a lot of 'spirited' driving! :mrgreen:

So I think that most of the vacuum leak issues are with the cars that haven't ever had the plenum off, or had the vacuum system gone through and checked out thoroughly. Those that have, I would venture to say probably haven't really had any more vacuum leak issues (if any).

I agree. No problems since I replaced all the secondary stuff (with the exception of a new-out-of-the-box solonoid and a brand new actuator that went bad). I have reservations as to whether the car would pass smog with the secondaries removed.

YES WE DO!

Following posts for some 4 years, & also having experienced a "little" of the "old ZR-1 Corvette" maladies myself, it occures to me that we should put together a DIY checklist for new ZR-1 owners.

Sounds like a topic for an article (hint-hint);)

I am removing the secondaries on mine, so hopefully, I can avoid any hissing noises. LOL
