Ive got a story for the Brotherhood.About a month ago I was having a hard time getting my bone stock 18,000 mile 91 Z smogged.I got in touch with the Sema Action Network,SAN to find out what kind of options I had if I couldnt get the car to pass.About a week later I get an email from a guy by the name of Jim Mcfarland.I start to correspond with Mr.Mcfarland and he makes a comment about my email address which is ARDUNFAN@***** telling me he personally new Zora Duntov and also he knew one of the principle engineers that helped develop the LT5.Right about now Im think this guy is full of it but kept the emails flowing.He then tells me that he conducted the very last published interview Duntov did before he passed away and proceeds to send me the interview.When I open the email and see JIM McFARLAND at the top of the page my head just about exploded,that Jim McFarland,Daaaaaaaaaaaaamn.Anybody that has read HotRod,Carcraft in the last 40 years has read something written by Jim McFarland.I can honestly say Ive known that name for most of my life.Ive included in the pictures a copy that Duntov gave to Jim that is probably the most important single document ever writtin pertaining to the Corvette.Jim was nice enough to sign a copy and send it to me.http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a136/FLYTYM/DSCN0841.jpghttp://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a136/FLYTYM/DSCN0842-1.jpghttp://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a136/FLYTYM/DSCN0845.jpghttp://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a136/FLYTYM/DSCN0851.jpghttp://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a136/FLYTYM/DSCN0849.jpg

Would love to have a copy also. If acceptable will add it to my Corvette library. When we have "corvette month" at the museum I put my library on display with the cars. This would greatly add to the Chevy history section.

Be MORE that happy to cover any expenses incurred.

By the time we sent a few emails the car passed.........this time.If Ca is allowed to keep lowering the MAX limits on allowable limits soon collectable cars such as mine will be garage art.Back on topic.Once I get word Id like to send this to somebody so they can forward copies to those that want one.Im not too computer literate so Ill need a little help on this one.

It's been a while since I've read Duntov's famed 1953 letter. When it circulated through GM upper management in the early-'50s, it opened a lot of "eyes". Needless to say, it changed the way GM looked at the enthusiast community and motorsports. It set standards for marketing to enthusiasts which have endured for almost 70 years.

I met Jim McFarland when he worked at Edelbrock as VP R&D. He was one of my mentors during the early years of my career working for automotive media. McFarland is a unique guy in our hobby. he has a rare combination of journalistic, marketing and engineering skills. Jim have remained friends over the years and I consider him one of the giants in the hot rod hobby.

He and Zora Duntov were close friends during the final years of Duntov's career at GM. McFarland recorded one of the last interviews with Duntov before he died. Somewhere in my mess of a new office, I have a copy of the interview which Jim sent me.

Copies of that letter surface from time to time as a few of them have made it into the hobby over the years. Duntov was a smart dude. Not only did he know how to engineer cars but he had some good ideas on how to market them to car enthusaists, as well.

I had my crank and aluminum flywheel balanced, surprising it took more to balance the flywheel than the machinist thought


So as long my new motor doesn't explode will be interesting to see if it improves the idle.
