at 6AM here in the 'burbs of NYC it was 19*....I guess that is a heat wave compared to ZERO !!!!!! The sun is out though, hummmm...if it wasn't so cold I'd say let her rip, but too cold for my D3's.

19 would be nice. I'm heating up the garage so I can bring the Argo in to put the tracks on it. The weather might be nice for a ride, but unfortunatly they sand and salt the roads. Shame they have to do that.

The GSD3's are down right dangerous in the cold.

No Frank, they just lack temperature. Any good F1 driver can make haste on cold tires on his out lap. One just has to go fast enough to get the heat back in and keep it in the tires! :sign10: Of course I don't know how to do that!!!!

Up to 24* now.....I may go to the toy box just for grins!:-D

Been chilly here in Florida, was in the 20s last night.. But I can't complain, supposed to be 60 today... Been driving the hell out of the Z, should hit 200K by springtime! Stay warm up there!

VetteMed, 200K? What does it take to get 200K? Does this include major rebuilds, or is the LT5 that good?

20's in FLA?

Original motor, trans, and rear. Motor has had the oil pan off, cam covers off, and the baffle box in the valley off, all to fix oil leaks, but otherwise has not been opened up. WHen I pulled the oil pan at about 188K, the cylinder liners still showed visible crosshatching. The motor does use some oil, 1-2 quarts per 1000 miles, but some of that is a leak that I think is coming from the front cover. Not worth it to me to pull the motor just to replace that seal. My goal is to see just how much life I can squeeze out of the LT5 without any major work.

20s in FL, yup... even got down to 17 a few weeks back. Granted, this is northern FL, about 80 miles from the GA border...

Wow, that's really impressive. I'm only showing 38K. Long way to go to catch up. Thanks for the heads up on the oil. I've been driving new stuff so long that doesn't burn oil. Just added aquart to the LT5. Duh. :o

A healthy LT5 will use some oil, it's really nothing to worry about, but like you said, if you've been driving newer (and/or more mainstream) cars, you might not have had to be as good about checking your oil level regularly.

Finally at a point I get to have a toy like this. It would be a shame if my next post " How do you do main bearings in an LT5?".

yeah, that would be pretty crappy.... thankfully, with the large oil capacity the LT5 has, being a quart low isn't a big deal if you're not driving at ten tenths all the time.

Well, driving at nine tenths most of the time. :-D

I drove 400 miles on the interstate near the speed limit to AZ for Xmas and the oil mark on the stick didn't move, but I went triple digits and went up into 6k rpm for passing gear changes on the way back home. A little too much fun on the coastal mtn range twisties passing people up hill and such... yep, used 1/2 a qt...

I have 33k miles on mine and you will use a couple of qts in 5000 miles if all you do is run with the secondaries open.

ON TOPIC: 50 deg is SD Co...a couple of dew drops on my outside car's roof...omg!

Seeing as my key defaults to "on" with the Haibeck chip, and my secondary port throttle plates have been deleted, yep, I'm always running on the secondaries. Life's too short to do otherwise!

There is a Top Gear episode where Hammond drives a F1, He couldn't keep the tires hot enough to go around the track.

Go to fast and the tires get greasy, Go to slow and your driving on Ice.
