Yep
The plan is to market the one piece, I believe. I am going to make the two (2) pc into a one (1) pc rocker. No need for the two pcs.

I won't have the molds done until Feb-March time frame. I don't know what price range he intends to market them at. I have to get them done first. I have a shop full of cars that are a first priority at the moment.

My limited understanding is that the first design rockers were two pieces. The front piece, with the ZR-1 emblem attached, is a seperate piece that screws onto the rocker panel..
The second design is a one piece unit.
Others with more knowledge may chime in.

Brett is working on a used set of what I believe to be early-version 49th Street rockers for me.
These are the rocker panels off the white '92 that Kb7tif (illenema on CF) owned. He has posted in this thread with links to photos of his car with them installed and here it is:
http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd353/scottcollier/Misc/illenema49thStrtRckrs.jpg
It seems there was an early version of 49th Street rocker panels; the small forward section where the emblem is placed was made separately, then attached (not very well) to the rocker panel.
This small piece was missing from the passenger side of the set I obtained. The driver’s side piece was fixed to the rocker panel by ONLY one screw under the emblem.
Illenema started a thread on CF searching for a replacement piece back in Sep 2008. In that thread -=Jeff=- posted that he recognized these as 49th Street rockers sold by ChromeCo in the early ‘90s. Here is a link to that thread: http://forums.*************.com/c4-zr-1-discussion/2121251-49th-street-rockers.html (http://forums.*************.com/c4-zr-1-discussion/2121251-49th-street-rockers.html).
Of course it has been censored because it is this forum's long-standing policy to do so, for some reason.
Here are a couple pics the current owner of the car sent when he removed the rockers.
http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd353/scottcollier/Misc/2.png
http://i531.photobucket.com/albums/dd353/scottcollier/Misc/3.png
Brett is making the replacement piece for the passenger side rocker, and will then make one-piece molds from which he will produce the set for my car.
There have been several threads on the other forum with discussion of "reasonable price" for repros.
Here is a link to one of those CF threads: http://forums.*************.com/c4-zr-1-discussion/2552924-49th-street-rockers-available.html (http://forums.*************.com/c4-zr-1-discussion/2552924-49th-street-rockers-available.html)
Again, I'm sure that link has been censored because it is this forum's long-standing policy to do so, for some reason.
I believe the 49th Street rockers sold at $745 per pair in 1996. IMO that might be a great price to shoot for if perfect, one-piece molds are achieved.
More to come as progress is made.

Visited Brett's shop today and he's made some real progress on the rockers.
I have a question to all interested in these.....
The 49th Street Rockers have the somewhat rectangular recessed area on the forward section to accomodate the emblem.
Although I do think the LT5 badges look great there, I'm thinking I might prefer to go without the badges, with a smooth surface.
How would you want yours?

Blue Flame Restorations
05-09-2012, 07:39 PM
My preference would be to do without the recess and give the buyer the option of running with no emblem or adhering an emblem to the face of the rocker.
Emblems seem to run about $75 each and finding them in the correct color may prove difficult for certain color combos. Painting emblems would be another option for the "buyer" to do, IMO.
The LT5 emblem is even harder to obtain, unless I supply them (unpainted) at an additional cost.

Well, the rockers are finally ready for primer and prep before mold making begins. I plan to make the molds before I leave for Bowling Green.
#702 made for a good model for fitment prior to the mold process.
The front piece for the passenger side was MIA, so I made a mirror image piece of the drivers side, shaping by hand. I then bonded it to the main body of the passenger side rocker panel.

Hi Frank!
I'd love to but I'm just starting the molds today. It's a three day process because of the three piece molds. Each side requires two mold halves plus the inside peice behind the front section where the emblem once resided. That's three mold pieces per side.
We'll probably paint and install a set so people can see how nice the finished product looks on the car. I think they'd look good in Turquoise or white. LOL

UPDATE 05/23/12
The mold of the hidden scoop piece for each side has been made. I'll be making half of the actual front side molds tomorrow. They will be a two piece mold. It will take an extra day for each half. So, all in all, three molds per rocker panel. The completed molds should be done by the end of the weekend.
Anyway, I should be making the first set next week.

Molds are almost done. The hard part is over with, anyway. The rockers are detailed for imperfections, primered, wet sanded and then buffed with mold wax. The mold release has been sprayed and is now drying. Gel coat will follow and the first part of the molds will be done this evening.
This has been alot of work but will be a cool venture and make some ZR-1 guys happy.
