I’ve been told my slow methodical methods are painful to watch!

SO HERE YA GO TED!!!!!!

Mocked up the install to check clearances. Just need to tidy up some hardware and they'll be ready to install.

Jeff,

Thanks for posting this!

How much are these coilovers? Could you evaluate them too?

Love to hear what you think!!!!!!!!!

I'll tell you my visual opinion--significantly more capable race application.

No cockpit (FX3) adjustment but better in every other way than the DRM coilovers I have.

I'll give my impression of this setup later this year if she let's her crew chief drive it!:(

If you're gonna not use the SRC shocks, the QA1 DA's are a great choice, especially for race track use.

I do not have QA1 DAs on a C4 but I put them on a 4Gen Camaro project last year and they were an excellent choice. They have a lot of valving bandwidth and that they are adjustable for both compression and rebound give you a lot of damping choices.

QA1 makes a great product.

I like the FX3 / DRM coilovers, but then again I don't have anything to compare it to.

My drive to Florida will be the real test... 3.5, miles in 2 weeks!

This setup looks like a welcome improvement over the DRM coilovers for fitment. First it appears they have solved the rear notching issue with the adapt plates hardware in order to mount in the original mounting holes. The DRM rear set up is too fat on top and the front of the mount points have to be notched forward. Carter I believe has now made blocks to solve this? Also it apears the adjustment setting are alittle more usable however the ease of spining a single adjustment wrench may out perform the ability to do the fine tuning (for the track of course not at home). Looking at the vansteel setup it apprears they still use the spanner compression wrench so not sure what the top adjustment do?

Did you have to relocate the front suspension swaybar with the guildstrand kit or? You do on the DRM kit.

I also assume you went with the new trailing arms (Dog bones) as the coils are too fat for the normal hardware without shaving? Another DRM issue (Actually a hypercoil issue).

One thing DRM does having going for it although is the FX-3 system is retained.

I'll be making my own relocation blocks for the front sway bar! I'm using prothane bushings front and rear.

Big fan of the adjustable heim stuff! Last setup we had was VBP but didn't care for the jam nut locking system. Thought we would try the Banski stuff this time around.

Not a big deal for a dedicated track car.

I modified some of the Banski hardware for a little more clearance.
All in all, the Vansteel "kit" is a well engineered setup.

Awesome I did the same with a Prothane total body kit as well. You may need to trim the front bushings a bit

Me to on the Heim joints. I suggest the Banski boot covers. The heims become a squeaky nighmare if the dirt and grit is allowed to get into the heim joints surfaces. Banksi is great bunch of folks to deal with

True mine is "steet" indeed in a track car really whats the issue

:o as usual I'm a bit behind the curve on all this! :sign10:

My question concerns the front & rear mounting of anyone's coil over kit. You have to either cut or fabricate repositioning brackets:

For the front sway bar end links? and bar to frame mounts?

Rear upper mount needs either a hole cut in the frame? Or a fab'ed bracket/mounting plate?

In the rear, if you have OEM suspension parts there are clearance issues? VB&P told me not to use their spherical jointed control arms(?) for the street!

I'm not doing this anytime soon, but I'm trying to figure out how to do it and what parts to start buying....sorry for the Q's:redface:

Tom

The main reason I'm looking at this stuff is I figure at 22 yrs old my rear stuff, parts & bushings, is about at the end of it's useful life. I'm trying to figure the most cost effective way of restoring the rear suspension. I used NOS A-arms from CorvetteRecycling to redo the front end as it was cheaper than buying parts to fix what I had.

Oh, Okay then that takes care of that! Now I'm not so worried about what I thought was me having to 'butcher' my car. I hate cutting holes in things like frame rails! Thank you Carter!:handshak:

Tom,
Still have to for rear if you're retaining FX3(DRM kit) but Carter's mounting hardware alleviates cutting and welding rear bracket.

Front mounting block allows generic urethane bushing kit for front sway bar repositioning without altering front frame rail.
