hi ho. Is there another way of finding out the build date (month/year) if: the door stickers are missing and; the build sheet is almost impossible to reach? If the answer is no, than how is the best way to get at the sheet? It is barely visible, above my fuel tank. Tried some needlenose pliers but no dice. either taped down or pinched between something. I tried removing the filler door and rubber filler pipe seal but that lead nowhere. I really, really, really would perfer not to have to drop the tank..... I dont think the engine or other component dates like the radio would be reliable for this. Car is #1544. Happy New Year everyone!

You can order a copy from the National Corvette Museum, easier than trying to get the original out

Thanks for the tip! The corvette museum says the build sheets dont list the actual date of production but when the car was orderd for production (up to 7-10 day differance). My next neurotic question is: does the Certification decal (drivers door) reflect the build or order date? Concievably, the decal and build sheet could list different months and years if one went by order and the other, production. Reason is i'm trying to replace my missing label. My guess the decal reflects the order date just like the build sheet but I guessed wrong with my first wife too......a round back at ya!

The door sticker on my 95 only shows the month/year of 10/94 which probably reflects the date on the build sheet (order day)as it shows as 10-31-94 (last day of 10).......On a production sheet for 95 my car is listed as built on 11-10-94 which is 10 days later than the build sheet date.....so the car came off the line somewhere during that time frame....not sure if you can accuratly narrow down to a certain day though.....this was brought up recently here on another thread.

Thanks! That answers it perfectly! The decal reflects the order date.

There are several places in the car you will see actual build dates,at least on the parts anyway. My 91 was produced in 10-90,Ive found several dates that are around 10-23-90,one is written on the underside of the top.Another place thats got a date is the wheel well splash panels,I just found another date on the pass side rear inside towards the bottom. You clean up,work on the car you will find these in random places.Another place thats got the build sheet if the front cross member where the front spring goes through, you might be able to glimpse the paper but you wont get it out without taking the car apart from what I understand. The build sheet has the actual build date of the car,I think I have day 263.I tried to find the day in the week but think I came out with a Sat or Sun.Overtime?

Some time ago I believe you mentioned '91 MY. If your car is #1544 '91MY the displayed build is 28Mar '91.
If you wanted a "replacement" certification label for the door with some creativity you could probably procure it from here: http://www.ecsvin.com/ Their requirement is generally a snapshot of the label that they're reproducing but you could maybe either have one done in photoshop replacing VIN & month/year or maybe with just reasonable ownership documentation they might accommodate you.
With the "late" March build a replacement 3/91 label I'd say would be correct regardless of use of build or order! Who's going to question it!!

Jeff - 263 doesn't work! 263 in '90 was a Thursday Sept 20.
Your displayed build is 12Oct '90 (285). I used car #634.

Thanks for all the help! Finding a scribbled date on the car itself would have been a real score but I have yet to see one. Can I ask how you got the 28/3/91 ? If its secret thats OK. ESC wont make a copy without the original, no if ands or buts so you're right, i guess i have to learn some photoshop and see if it will slide by. One avenue I'm still waiting on is a local GM dealer. They say they get them for their bodyshop all the time and maybe the could get me it with just proof of ownership. Would be nice but...Anyway I'm constantly surprised by how much help the General still is with these cars after 20 odd years and a bankruptcy.

The local GM dealer should be able to confirm the build date for you!
A very expensive approach would be to do one from another vendor that isn't generally a duplication but close and then have the dealer attempt the duplication from ECS. You want ECS, the others aren't correct. A snapshot of the VIN plate in the dash, a title and maybe the SPO label along with the one "you're not happy with" might satisfy a request from a shop that uses their services on a regular basis.
Here's a pdf from a NACE member that ECS circulates regarding their competition. Is it so? Don't know! You might inquire of them, this is maybe 2 years old so it could be they've changed the business model.

youi're right, I should have just talked to GM first for the date too. Whats one more call from that 'damnned corvette wierdo'? Got my unemployed computer nerd brother working on the photoshop if it comes to that....ECS is definately the way to go. stay tuned.

Try this. I know it works on a 1990.
Drop your spare tire and take it out of the tub. Lay on your back and with your head in the tub look at the rear bumper subframe. Most 1990's have a build date in crayon on the subframe. It is worth a try for a 91.
Good luck and post if you find it on your 91.
Thanks.
