View Full Version : Just bought a ZR1 and had questions.
Hey guys I just bought a 1990 black/grey ZR1, #646, with 28,000 miles on it. I had a couple of questions about the cooling system. The car warms way up at idle (up to 109 C on the A/C console) before the cooling fans cut on. I looked under the car at the radiator and didn't really see anything blocking the flow. I also priced new radiators and noticed some crazy price differences. Amazon has an AC Delco radiator for $136 and then most of Eckler's radiators were $500-600. What gives? Is there really a difference? Next question, how can I tell if the fuel injectors on the car have been replaced without tearing the motor apart? Can anyone recommend a site other than ebay where I can buy a CD of the shop manual? Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for the answer!
That's the way it is stock, fans turn on at 230*f.
Stock T-stats are 180*
Not radiator unless you have a leak, you have low mileage.
You can have your chip reprogram to turn fans on earlier.

Note: 180F is the opening temperature, not the operating temp. All else stock, minimum operating temp is 195F.
It's hard to see if debris is restricting airflow through the radiator. Having said that, I wouldn't worry about it unless the fans won't keep it in the range of 195~215 @ hwy speed.

Throw away your Eckler's catalog.
Welcome
Thanks for the welcome and the advice. I'm surprised that the temperature fluctuations are normal. Jerry, went to your site probably going to be putting in an order for the oil cooler lines soon. You don't happen to sell those copies of the ZR1 shop manuals on CD do you?
