Here an article on top end work. Scroll down, they talk about removing the cam covers. Take good notes, I'll be doing this next month. In the middle of an transmission pull this weekend.

I did this on the passenger side several months ago.
If you look along the top side of the cam cover you will see what looks like a screwdriver slot. Front and back of motor. In addition you can use a small rubber mallet to tap the cover loose. Then lift. Take plugs out also.
