I have some LA Sleeves liners that have some scoring can they be taken out to 4.010" or will they have to be replaced?

Depends, if you already have 4.00" pistons then taking the liners to 4.010" will result in to much piston side clearence and the liner should be replaced. However if you don't have your pistons yet order a set of 4.010" pistons and have your shop hone out all the liners to give the proper side clearence specified by the piston manufacturer. The LA Sleeve liners have enough material in the walls to safely do this. I have a honing plate you can barrow if you need one.

If you are going to be under 3.850 stroke it will be ok. I would not recommend over 4.00 ( LA standard sleeve ) for 4.00 and up stroke. The piston side load is a know problem for 4.125 strokes, A thinner liner will only make it worse. Back when I was working on a 368, I called the top 4 builders. All of them said ok up to 4.030 bore for a 368 ( stock crank ) All said no for a 415 ( 4.125 stroke ).

Thanks Phil, I'm going to have Corey put the engine together. I'm collecting parts now and jsut want to make sure I get the right ones. I'm sure Corey H. has the honing plate but if not I'll take you up on your offer.

Kevin,

I was going to do a 415 with a 4.125 stroker crank but after doing some research I changed my mind and am now going the 402 route with a 4.000 stroker crank.

If Corey is doing the work, I would talk with him on it. I know I called Corey many times and he is in my top 4 picks.

Kevin,

I was going to do a 415 with a 4.125 stroker crank but after doing some research I changed my mine and am now going the 402 route with a 4.000 stroker crank.

I went down the same path and also decided to go the 4.00" stroke crank/402 CID route. Luckily I came across a never used before 4.00" Bryant billet crank and a later style 405 hp long block in perfect condition to start the project off with. All the parts are gathered up now; GVD ported heads, LA Sleeve 4.00" liners installed and plateau finish honed, JE 12:1 coated pistons, Crower Maxi-Lite steel billet rods, ATI balancer. Hopefully my work schedule will slack off a bit over the winter so I can get it assembled and running by BG time this spring.
