has anyone upgraded to LED tails? the stock lights maybe fine for 1990 but they're getting a bit hard to see these days. I was looking at corvette america and found this (part # 45009)

http://corvetteamerica.com/cf/displaylearnmore.cfm?partno=45009&idlist=p_45061,320,p_49107,p_45063,320,318,3178,31 6,319,p_30566,p_30567,p_45009,p_45062,p_9696,p_969 4,302,p_9695&searchdest=%2Fcf%2Flearnmorelist.cfm%3Fsubcategory id%3DX860&subcategoryid=X860

and apparently you also need

http://corvetteamerica.com/cf/displaylearnmore.cfm?partno=45062&idlist=p_45061,320,p_49107,p_45063,320,318,3178,31 6,319,p_30566,p_30567,p_45009,p_45062,p_9696,p_969 4,302,p_9695&searchdest=%2Fcf%2Flearnmorelist.cfm%3Fsubcategory id%3DX860&subcategoryid=X860

thoughts from the group? now if I could find a way to mount some HID's in the stock pop up lights I'd be all set.....ok maybe not, there's still that whole porting thing

anyone remember which of the major parts houses had the carbon fiber roof for our cars at carlise? been looking couldn't find it online

If you buy the right taillights you do not need the load resistors.

You will need an Electronic Flasher ( about $10 from the local parts store)

I have LED Tail lights, but the ones you posted are quite square looking when lit up..

I got these:

The Top and bottom row have 1 less LED but that look better when lit up

I also made a custom LED 3rd Brake light for my car.

Ive been running them since 2007. As stated all you need is an electronic flasher. Im using LEDs rear lights from Corvette South however when they arrived they were shipped from Ecklers. They have 48 LEDs per lens. Mine are blocked a little by the billet louvers I have. The LED lens are flat so these louvers now fit flush vs. the convex old lights.

Yes the back up lights above are also LEDs

your definition of "a little more" and mine are drastically different. that's cutting way too deep into my header fund

Kevin,

the ones I bought I paid around the $170 look on eBay they might even be less..

They are brighter then stock as I have had comment for other ZR-1 owners locally. they may not have as many LEDs but they have the reflectors to help with the lighting/brightness

Good luck on your decision

Didn't somebody go a step further and rig the rear turn
signals to roll to the turn direction? Kind of like the
old T-birds (mustangs?) used to have.

I also have custom LED's in my ZR-1's CHMSL that I made (and didn't cost me a dime!). There happened to be a wing lying around in the garage that went to a car one of my brothers used to have a couple years ago. It had a 12V strip of red LED's in it for the brake light.

The strip was too long though, so I had to cut it to fit. The strip is built with groups of 5 LED's wired in series, but the groups are wired in parallel with each other with a resistor also in each group. So by cutting the strip between two of the groups of 5 LED's, the strip still works. The pictures below are of the extra section of the strip that I cut off.

I spliced the strip into the CHMSL wiring, installed the strip to the old reflector with two small red zip ties after removing the bulbs (which were all burned out anyway) and reassembled the CHMSL. I think it turned out really nice; I just have to get some LED taillights to go with it now.

C5/C6 only sure it could be modified but not for me.

my guess it is more then likely the harness connectors for the bulbs that are the difference.

but I agree, not for me.. looks better with 3 in the row for the sequential
