I slightly pulled the alternator apart to check something and I cant get it back together..Any ideas on how to do it right??

There's a 2 part video here that should help you. I believe the brushes have popped out of the holder. I'm sure there are many assembly aids but this You Tube does a pretty good job of a CS144 and explains the difference of the early and late units.

If the brush are hanging up (might likely be the case, as I'm sure you noticed), spread them one at a time and pin it in place using a toothpick through the hole in the rear plate of the alternator (that seems to exist for that purpose). Two toothpicks are needed. Once you have the alternator back together, pull the two toothpicks out and the brushes will fall in place, and you're done.

Make sure you "clock" the two cases correctly otherwise you may be pulling it apart again.
I have used a straightened paperclip to hold the brushes back. Careful you don't groove them.
