Data Loggers

Anyone have an opinion about data logger venders?
I have an old laptop with the Diacom software on it.
It's only good for ODB I but works great.
I want to upgrade to some thing that will log data
for ODB II.
I know of Dyno-Scan and Autoxray. What else is out there
that works well and <$200?
I an not interested in just a scanner.
Any opinions on the Dyno-Scan A302 from Auterra? pro or con?

except I need to start from scratch as I'm not yet a "data logger"...I would like a system/vendor that I can use on both my cars. The Z and my 08 Cobalt.

Seems nice as a dashboard tool and scanner. And price is right.
The data logging feature is not there though. For me that is of primary concern. It allows you to see (and record) almost real time, what's going on with all sensors and decisions that the system is doing. With that I hope to see all the O2 sensors. And from there perhaps see anomalies such that replacement parts are not just a shot in the dark.

Will it work on a 92?


The Dyno-Scan A-302 works on all 1996 and newer vehicles including those equipped with CAN bus.*

Unfortunately no. I use a "diacom" setup for my pre 96 vars.
It requires an older laptop. And they are becoming rare.

Generally this thing is working up to my expectations. It's manual and other literature is filled with errors (grammar and spelling) and the installation is not as trivial as one would think but worth it. I am getting more data than I know how to interpret. AND there is an add on feature to get data from other systems (so called enhanced data) in the car such as antilock brakes, air bags, security, cabin temp controls, Onstar, and a slew of others.
What they lack is a library of data from cars that are working ok. This could serve as a baseline for comparison in diagnosing issues.

I don't think that will work. As I recall the software uses code delays to get the right timing to get the data. That's why faster machines will not work. Also it requires Window (old version I think 98) I have an old IBM thinkpad I have dedicated to this.
