New numbers for the 1990 automatic 441 ZR1 - went out today - temp 53 - baro 30.06 - dew point 27. US41 dragway in Indiana - same place we went with the FBI guys for the Corvette shootout a few weeks ago, but about 30 degrees cooler. Today's numbers:
1.52 60ft - 10.63 1/4 mile - 132mph
1.48 60ft - 10.44 1/4 mile - 133mph
1.47 60ft - 10.58 1/4 mile - 131.5 mph
On last pass of the day, I nearly ran down a "no-clock" trailer car from behind - made my day - went flying by him about 10ft after the finish line like he was tied to a post. He had me by about a car, car and a half at mid-track. Bet he never expected a streetable Corvette to come back at him on the big end.
Cheers all,
Kevin #2870
Way to go Kevin.
Just call me Dr.Frankenstein :)
Imagine if you put on light weight skinnies/front runners.
Just need to ask
Did you drive it to the track and back home?

Pete - yes - on 93 octane pump gas as well. I imagine with front runners the car might have dipped into the 10.30s.
Al - Thanks - The secret is clearly the 60ft from the automatic. Would've loved to see you and Bob break the 135mph barrier yesterday - I'm sure you guys both could've hit that number, maybe even 136-137.
The 10.44 run was freakish. I tried to duplicate it and actually 60ftd better on my third pass, but I think the motor was a little warmer the 3rd time and the air was warming up too as the afternoon went on. The motor definitey seems prone to heat soak a bit if I idle too long during staging.
Man that car sounds and runs nice Kevin

It's the 60 ft. time that blows me away, damn, it's hard to leave that quick with a stick.
What's the quickest 60ft. on record for any ZR-1? I'll bet 1.48 is damn close.
I envy you guys, it isn't often we get a temp (53deg F.) like that. perfect.

WoW Nice to see some awsome times out of these big bore ZR1 Engines. The best part was it was driven to the track and back home.

WOW! Can you post the timeslips? What was the 1/8 mi ET and MPH?
That is incredible performance!

The man behind the curtain. We sould be glad that we have people like you guy's that build the big bore engines :thumbsup:
You do good work !

6.70 @ 102
This is an automatic Z, MPH will be a bit less over a 6 speed manual.
Pete
Excellent times.
Seeing these 441 times, it really makes PETE's 11.09 @ 129.27 and 11.04 @ 128.86 times a speeds even more impressive.
1.52 60ft - 10.63 1/4 mile - 132mph
1.48 60ft - 10.44 1/4 mile - 133mph
1.47 60ft - 10.58 1/4 mile - 131.5 mph
Roughly 4 tenths and 3 mph better with an extra 91 cubes. I realize there are many factors at play, but if a 441 is tuned out like PETE's 350 is, the times/speeds would be even more impressive.
kcl98 great work.

Bob - thanks - it might be pretty close to the fastest 60ft. It's not a real fair comparison though - having the 4L65E makes it easy. There's only a handful of automatic guys out there who could try to run those short times. I'd be scared to try it with a stick - afraid the half-shafts and u-joints might not be up to the task. At least with the automatic, the fluid torque converter cushions the shock at launch, as opposed to dropping the hammer with a 6-speed. - KC --- PS - 1.76 is very impressive for a stick....and so is 12.06 @ 117 for a stock motor w/bolt-ons.:saluting:

Hog - Pete actually kicked my butt on the highway once last year. I think he was still in 2nd with his 6-speed & stock 3.45 gears and I got stuck in 3rd with the slush box on the hit at about 70mph or so. It was a humbling experience for a big stroker engine......I'm game to race anyone off the line, but there's plenty of guys around the country that can bring it on the top end - and plenty of them here in Chicago within our group - Bob is still our king of trap speed and I think Al's got a better shot to knock him off that pedastal than I do. Only about 2300-2400 - or so precision industries told me. I asked them for the tightest triple disc converter possible, because I've never felt it necessary to have too much stall to get off the line. Had an old 383 TransAm with a 2400 that did 1.58 60fts back in the day. Always thought stall was over-rated for turning good short times. Just a philosophy, I suppose. KC

That's surprising. I would have thought that you might have a pretty high stall speed converter in there, seeing as the LT5 makes it's best power in the upper range. BTW, at what rpm do you go through the traps?
