Since it looks like the NVMC/NVCC event is going to be a bust due to weather, the next time Mason Dixon is free is November 12th. They only have a Test and Tune scheduled, which in my experience there, means very few cars running. When I've gone before to TnT's that had no races the same day, you can hot-lap like crazy, and easily get in 10-15 runs or more.
So this sounds like a good time to get in some drag racing before the season ends.
Test and Tune's are $30, the gates open at 10am, and racing starts at 11.
Any interest?

Also, if you are going to drag race in the fall around here, make sure you have good tires. Don't let this happen to you!

Heheh, no one would have known that was your car! But it was pretty funny... :) No Sumitomos when it's less than 50F.
And Darren, good call! I could have put on my special "cold-weather drag radial" Dunlop Wintersports, and put a beating on those cammed cars and 368's!

Ok, so David is in, Mike G is in, who else is in? You don't have to run your car if you don't want, just show up to hang out and watch. ZR-1's look good going down the track!

The previous event was with the Northern Virginia Corvette Club, they were arranging the caravan. There is no organized/official caravan for this event. It's not a Corvette event, just a normal open test and tune at the track.
So far I only know two ZR-1's going to race, plus you. If you want to meet up in Leesburg on the way to the track, though, let me know. It'll be pretty informal in terms of time and whatnot, but I'm sure 2-3 of us will drive up at the same time. Though Mike might be towing his car, in which case he might not want to caravan.
But if you don't mind following a Caddy up there, cruising in the left lane at 10 under with the blinker on, you are welcome to come along.

Mike rounded up a few people. You all might remember Mike with the silver C5Z06 race car that ran with us in April '10? He'll be there, and his neighbor Ron with the red A6 C6, now he has a C5Z street car.
Mike and Mike will likely trailer their cars, so I am waiting to hear back on if it is feasible for them to meet up or not. Then I'll let you all know. Otherwise, worst case, we'll just meet at my house and then meet them on the way or at the track.
Just a reminder, it's not the Corvette thing, so no 8am. TnT is 11-4. $30 to race, $10 to watch.
Weather forecast is looking good, should be a great time. And since it is later, hopefully the track temp will be higher from the sun. Still, I wouldn't expect a ton of prep.

Ok, so let's meet here:
Exeter shopping center in Leesburg (http://maps.google.com/maps/place?cid=4522502949185539818&q=Exeter+Shopping+Center,+Leesburg,+VA&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=39.125774,-77.544433&spn=0.000008,0.000011&t=h&z=17&vpsrc=6), and roll out for the dragstrip at 10:30am. It would be easy to get out on US-15 from there, it's on Battlefield Pkwy right where it hits US-15.
If you are using in-car nav, punch in the 7-11 there:

The day started off with a plethora of other cars and a dearth of traction. But as the day went on, that started to reverse. By about 3pm traction was getting good, Z's were running faster, and there weren't many people still there.
So it definitely turned into a great day, though it wasn't clear at the start that it would be.

I'll say, the day at first seemed a bit disappointing. No one was running too well, most ET's in the 13's and high 12's. Then Phil goes out for the first run in his car in like a year or so, and runs this 12.5. That really turned the day around, got people excited, and they started going out and running faster and faster.
Also, Mason Dixon is not a fast track, especially for trap speeds. Based on my experiences there, I'd say add 2-3MPH to get to what a car would turn down at BG.
One of these days we need to caravan down to MIR and really run some fast times.

Thanks for posting the vids. Had my car at my shop ready to go but 2 guys decided not to show up for work 2day. Glad all had a great time. I ended up taking the car out for some high speed runs at the end of the day to help cure the Z Jones.
So I guess Dr.Phil had the hot shoe! What happened to DJ's wheels? they didn't look like the FM5's he just put on several weeks ago :saluting:

Thanks for taking and posting the videos Bob. It was a great day for ZR-1 enjoyment. We had eight ZR-1's and nine WAZOO members.
Thanks Paul for being our race coordinator and setting up the pairings.
It was a lot of fun racing Mike head to head. Our cars seem to be very closely matched and and we both have 4.10:1 rear ends. Now we know he is the better driver.
It was good to see everyone having fun!!

What was the DA?
Hey Dom,
None of us had a tool to check that. As you can see by the pictures, the track is in the mountains, though I bet it's less than 1000' elevation. Presumably the DA early in the day was lower than later in the day, as the temperature warmed up. Yet the trap speeds were generally lower earlier than they were later as the track "came in". Temps were high 40's to 50F in the morning, and it probably got up to about 60F by the time we left, it was quite nice in the afternoon.
I don't quite understand that, except I guess there is some amount of time where power is not being delivered, as you get out from the line the prep is gone, lots of squirrely rear ends on the 1-2 shift. Though Phil and Jim were on DR's, so no problems on shifting, and their trap speeds went up as the day went on too.
I just wanted to say "THANKS" to Bob for staying with keeping this event alive after it got rained out. Also thanks to Jim Voter for prompting me to go out for another run or two. It was a great time and good to see all the ZR-1s out running. Phil, congrats on the fastest time of the day for the Zs. Dave, the dymags look cool and that white Zr-1 was absolutely beautiful. I hope everyones drive home was uneventful and I certainly enjoyed hanging out with everyone. Jim, those last two runs were a blast. I hope we can do it again. Bob, thanks for posting the videos. Best wishes for a great Thanksgiving to all!
Mike
Ps: Dave, I think you owe Phil a new pair of underwear
