Another Stereo Problem

[SC UL8R1990]

1990 ZR1 with delco bose stock cd player sereo system. Its my dads ZR1,its got 3,300 original miles on it. The stereo wouldnt work when we first got it back in august. We replaced a copule things to maki it all work again, i forgot waht we replaced (something in the passenger side dash and 2 rear speakers along with the amps) It was a total of $800 and everything worked perfect after that. Well it sat in the garage over the winter with the battery out of the vette. We started it back up today and he went to play music........There is a constant HUM coming out of only 1 speaker :eek: just the driver side rear speaker. It goes from high to low pitch and just hums. The stereo wont play cds or radio :!:

we are stumped. :neutral: whats up with this stereo?

I hate to say this but all the Bose systems are real pieces of crap. It is the weak link in any decent car, not to mention our ZR-1's. As to what specificly is wrong with it, I can't say, but it sounds as if the head unit is the problem based on your post. Try disconnecting the fuse to it, and see if that does anything (I doubt it, but it can't hurt) before considering sending it in for repair.

I have owned an 84z51 and a 94zr1 both had the same problems as you are describing, fixing it is only temporary... they all eventually wont work. The system is CRAP and that is being nice about it....
I was given excellent advise on this regard not to long ago.
RIP IT OUT AND BURN IT.
If you ever really want reliable sound in ANY C4 you just have to replace it,... there is no way around it. and its much cheaper than fixing it every year.

I helped my freind do that to his, luckily I never even use my stereo so it doesnt bother me... i feel to disconnected from the vehicle when I cant hear her.

Ok ok, I want a little more feedback other than "rip it out"... I have all the normal (I am wondering why I'm writing this :???: ) problems. Intermittent CD, and blown amps, questionable speakers....
Has anybody had good luck and results with a certain repair facility for the stock Bose??? (1990 ZR1). Tell me which repair facilities to use, and which to avoid. If you want to reply privately, let me know and I'll furnish my email address. Is that safe? Thanks!

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

I think you will find the reason for people recommending "rip it out" is due to years of frustration with the systems. I bought mine from the original owner, and he had problems from day one, which they never were able to resolve. After the warranty expired, they basically told him to jump off a pier, despite the fact of all the service calls while under warranty. They told him to take it up with Bose, and you can imagine how far that got him.

So when you hear that attitude, don't be surprised. I'll try to look up which shops are recommended for speaker/head unit repair, but keep in mind that their warranties don't go much longer than 1 year either. :(

You know, I've been thinking of buying 4 pioneer 6x9 speakers to replace the Bose speakers. but I'd have to get an amp, right? And where to put it in such a cramped car?
